Over the past few years we central Texans (specifically Dripping Springers) have learned much about self-sufficiency and sustainability. While there are many different sources to each, they are hard to find all in one place.
The Dripping Springs Aquaponic and TransFarming Group is a collaborative effort to teach the knowledge and skills to everyone wanting to move closer to self-reliance. We bring together local experts and other Meetup Groups who are involved in Aquaponics, Soil Biology, Beekeeping, Family farm animals, Zai holes, Rainwater capture, Hoop house construction, Organic gardening, Wicking beds, HugelKultures, planting fruit trees, protecting gardens from predators, Re-purposing materials, DIY (do it yourself) approaches, Landscape planning and management, Seed planting/harvesting/storage, Tank gardens, and overall TransFarming techniques in general. And of course, when the time is right for celebration, live music!
AND IF THAT WEREN’T ENOUGH – we have our own “lab” where we will be building a five-acre TransFarm (https://www.facebook.com/pages/White-Stone-Farms-and-Apiary/243646965776787)from the ground up. The techniques and approaches used here are the same as with a regular sized backyard, but allows for the addition of small farm animals and bees. The project will include all the aspects listed above and realized through our Meetups, Classes, Expert speaker series, and hands-on Workshops. The overall goal is to build a Learning Center to facilitate research and development on a wide range of projects designed to work together for maximized food security for us all.
