Near-death study: Brains explode with activity as heart stops
Contributed by Clayton Nash, from
“Near-death experiences” or the sudden rush of a feeling of peace, seeing dead relatives/angels, a light at the end of a tunnel … These experiences … might just be physical noise….In a new study released this week researchers found that just as a rat’s heart stops for the last time, its brain lights up like a Christmas tree in a power surge…. it’s not proof that near-death experiences aren’t “spiritual” or more than a physical brain response to an extreme environment, because the activity of the brain at the moment of death might just be a physical accompaniment to the flight of the soul….

Genetic ‘Adam’ Located
Almost every man alive can trace his origins to one man who lived about 135,000 years ago, new research suggests. And that ancient man likely shared the planet with the mother of all women….Despite their overlap in time, ancient "Adam" and ancient "Eve" probably didn't even live near each other, let alone mate...

Religious Majority to become the minority by 2041
...Objections come from religious people and some atheists who argue there will always be weak people, unlike them, who need religion. Does either camp have a point?...

You Gotta LOVE This New Pope!
Contributed by Clayton Nash, from
“...If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?” Francis told reporters, speaking in Italian but using the English word “gay.” Francis’s words could not have been more different from those of Benedict XVI, who in 2005 wrote that homosexuality was “a strong tendency ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil,” and an “objective disorder.” The church document said men with “deep-seated homosexual tendencies” should not become priests….

Science WINS in KY science standards dispute
The Kentucky Board of Education on Thursday rejected that public opposition and approved a final report from the education department on the new science standards...Citing support from dozens of scientific organizations, Kentucky education department officials rejected comments opposing evolution in the new standards, saying it’s “the fundamental, unifying theory that underlies all the life sciences.” It goes on to say, “there is no significant ongoing debate within the scientific community regarding the legitimacy of evolution as a scientific idea.” KDE also notes that the concept of evolution already exists in the current version of the Kentucky Core Academic Standards for Science and has been assessed since 2006.
