Fabulous Pizza demo/dinner with Cook and Butler!

  • This location is shown only to members

Not too long ago I tried the best raw pizza I ever had. It was incredible! I immediately asked the chefs if they would give the meetup a demo/dinner. They readily agreed. So Shivie and Cemaaj, the Cook and the Butler, are booked for January 10th at 6:30 p.m. We are going to let you try out this pizza for yourself - and learn how to make it for friends and family. It has the crispiest crust that holds for a long time all the layers of tasty ingredients. When we try it after the demo we will have some salad and dessert to go with it.

Here’s what they say about it:

"This is our very popular Peppered Walnut Zucchini Pizza with Orange Zest...

Having a great pizza base is essential for every recipe box. We will share our foolproof pizza recipe that can be ready in under 24 hours (fully dehydrated). A crunchy base provides great support for all the toppings we will use (topping recipes will not be part of the demo as it would take too long, the pizza base is the important part of this recipe)

Toppings we will enjoy at dinner include: Fresh marinara, Cashew macadamia cheez, sliced avocado and apple, grated zucchini, carrot and beet, corn kernels (if available), diced red bell pepper, sprouts and drizzled with tzatziki Bite through a slice of this pizza and you'll be in taste heaven. A great recipe to share with those transitioning to raw."

The cooks are a partnership that have been in existence a long time but are new to the Bay Area. More about them below!

The demo/dinner will be $17, which is a great deal for what we are getting.
Because it is essential to know how many they will be serving we will ask you to pay when you RSVP.
But do feel free to e-mail me if you prefer to mail a check.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The demo will begin at 7 p.m. and will go about an hour. We will then have the pizza, salad, and dessert.

The Cook & Butler is a dynamic partnership between Shivie Cook and Cemaaj Butler–yes, that really is their last names on their birth certificates! Having been together for nearly 9 years they have been running the business part time for several years and have been full time in the kitchen for almost a year.

Inspired by the health benefits of a balanced diet, Shivie and Cemaaj strive to bring food to the table and recipes to the classroom (via workshops) that will not only entice the senses but also be health promoting to the overall health of our bodies.

Shivie is originally from England and arrived in San Francisco in January 1999 as a corporate lawyer. This was an assignment that was initially intended to last a month and turned into a full time relocation. Although Shivie was "successful" in the eyes of society, earning 6 figures, she did not feel successful in her life. She was 200 lb.s at her heaviest, sick, and was hospitalized a couple of times a year. Tired of being sick and tired, she walked out of her six figure corporate office to find a life with more meaning and purpose.

Nine years later, Shivie has found the passion she left her life as a lawyer for–all things food and health! Her partner, Cemaaj, shares in her passion for not only the culinary aspects of healthy vegan food preparation but also for sharing and passing on the skills they themselves have learned along the way. "Bringing You and Your Food Back to the Kitchen" is their slogan–they want everyone to eat real food, prepared by real people, in real kitchens...and they are here to help you achieve their goal for yourself. Learn more about their To Go Meal Program where you collect your meals at the beginning of the week. They also teach workshops.

Based in San Francisco, The Cook & Butler have served 3 farmers markets as vendors and recently their pies and desserts became available at Rainbow Co-Op. Shivie and Cemaaj are determined to change the health of the world one bite at a time Yelp Reviews (under our old name TeamRAW_it is in the process of being changed over)

Go directly up the stairs and turn left into the room. (There is an elevator available from a different entrance on 22nd St. if anybody needs assistance). The location is just a block from BART....exit BART at 19th Street Station. That puts you right near the Paramount Theater and walk a block and a half up from there.
ONE MORE THING- It is advisable for all meetup events to go back to the site at least the day of the event to check to see if any changes have been made. This happens from time to time. I e-mail everyone but in case you miss something, I suggest you take a last look. (very rarely will any changes be made that last day)

This was my first event with the group and I loved it. The food was fabulous. The pizza and desert were amazing and my favorite thing was the salad. I enjoyed getting to meet some nice and interesting people.

The pizza was delicious and the class well presented. Shivie has a great way about her and made it a fun event. I loved that she also had recipe available in cracker form. Dinner was yummy, the salad dressing was especially delicious and the group was a pleasure to be with. The only criticism I have is that it should have been publicized VERY clearly that we would only be taught the crust and topping and not the cheese or marinara. When I take a cooking class I expect to leave equipped to replicate the entire recipe, not be told I need to pay for and take more classes to complete key elements of the dish. If it had been advertised as a pizza CRUST class, expectations would have been different. Today I went to the Cook & Butler site and didn't even see classes for cheese and marinara, so that means being forced to experiment with something I think was reasonable to expect I would have learned in class.

The pizza was as great as I remembered- and the pie was so amazing that everyone was wanting her back so we could learn that recipe. So we need to have her back soon. Shivie is a very entertaining and engaging teacher- We have some video for it so people who didn't get to come can see for themselves how to put the crust together- and the layers of topping. I know everyone who attends one of her classes will be glad they did. The two of them, Cook and Butler, did an amazing job- and it was really nice to have a chance to really meetup during the dinner. I'm hoping we can have more of these kinds of events.

We'll have other events like potlucks and picnics where kids are invited, but sorry, not classes.
