Our novel for November will be Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler. Thanks to our member Brent for suggesting this one!

"Pulitzer Prize winner and American master Anne Tyler brings us an inspired, witty and irresistible contemporary take on one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies.

Kate Battista feels stuck. How did she end up running house and home for her eccentric scientist father and uppity, pretty younger sister Bunny? Plus, she’s always in trouble at work – her pre-school charges adore her, but their parents don’t always appreciate her unusual opinions and forthright manner.

Dr. Battista has other problems. After years out in the academic wilderness, he is on the verge of a breakthrough. His research could help millions. There’s only one problem: his brilliant young lab assistant, Pyotr, is about to be deported. And without Pyotr, all would be lost.

When Dr. Battista cooks up an outrageous plan that will enable Pyotr to stay in the country, he’s relying – as usual – on Kate to help him. Kate is furious: this time he’s really asking too much. But will she be able to resist the two men’s touchingly ludicrous campaign to bring her around?"

Please bring a bottle of wine or some gourmet cheese to share with friends. Small cash contributions to cover the cost of the meetup are greatly appreciated. Hope to see you there!!

Whew, I'll be honest, I couldn't finish this book--I gave up after the first few chapters. I might just show up to see what others thought of it, though. :)

I agree! I made it through but was not a fan. Very much interested to hear others' perspectives, always makes me rethink the books!

Sorry I didn't make it. I worked from home all day, to the point I forgot to eat lunch. By the time I was done, it was nearly 5 and I still was in my PJs. I looked outside, said it wasn't happening, and then opened my bottle of wine. ;^) Next month for sure! Love David Sedaris!

This is my first time meeting with all of you. I read the book and enjoyed it but definitely not one of her best. The ending was very interesting. Where are we meeting?

I really want to be there since I missed last month... but I have a work function/reception that is schedule to go until 7:30pm... I am tempted to join you late, but might not be realistic.

This will be my first meet up with this group so I did not have time to read the book -- just read the summary and analysis via kindle but sounded like a good read. I like Anne Tyler so disappointed to hear this one was not a winner.
