We will meet at the entrance to Morrisons Supermarket, Southwood (post code GU14 0NA), and set off through Southwood Woodland which is owned by Rushmoor Borough Council who are improving the area to make it more accessible for people to use.
A series of footpaths have been developed, but this is only the first element of a major improvement scheme to balance the requirements of wildlife and amenity to provide a valuable natural resource for the community.
The site includes large areas of regenerating birch, together with mature oak field boundaries. Holly and hazel are other common species. Areas of Alder Carr, grassland and heathland form localised important habitats and ground flora includes bluebells and ferns.
This woodland will lead us towards Fleet Pond. There are some benches by the pond, where we will stop for a little while - you may wish to bring a drink/snack with you. We will carry on and do a circular trail round the pond,
and return through woodland back to the car park - about 3 hours later
Dogs are welcome on this walk . All we ask is that they are friendly and well behaved. Event Hosts have the right to ask the member to leave, at any point, if they feel their dog(s) doesn't fit this criteria.
For those who wish to eat afterwards, The Crab + Anchor is minutes away
£2.00 meetup subs apply to this event. Please have this ready to give the Event Hosts at the start of the walk - thank you
THIS WALK WILL BE WEATHER DEPENDANT
We do not employ qualified guides, leaders or first-aiders on any of our events. The group works on the same basis of being a group of friends who go out walking, or socialising together, who invite others to join them on this basis via the Meetup web site.
