What we're about
This is a fabulous group of women who have been meeting to discuss great reads since 1996. We welcome readers of all ages - just bring a love of reading and a willingness to participate in some great discussions.
The group meets at the El Toro Library Community Room on the first Tuesday of each month, from 5:30 - 6:45 pm. One member prepares information about the author (unless it's an autobiography or biography, of course) and then we have a moderator who helps guide the discussion.
The library has been a huge supporter of our group, and each month they will have all available copies of the next month's book on hand for us to check out. We will have an extended check-out period, as well, so we can hang on to the book until the next meeting.
We read fiction and non-fiction, everything from classics to autobiographies, short stories and bestsellers. We tend to focus on books written by or about women but we will wander over and read a male author if they wrote a great book. We're not a "Costco" book group - we don't often read books that are the current bestsellers.
We throw a Christmas party each December where we vote on the books for the next year. Everyone submits their lists by early November and they are compiled and sent to members for review before the meeting. We also bring a gently-used book for a book swap.
We have annual dues of $10 per member, to cover the Meetup costs. Any excess funds will go to a library or literacy cause.
If you'd like to meet the members in a relaxed setting, e-mail me about attending our Christmas party!
