In an effort to keep the group small and foster more interactions between members, we are no longer immediately adding members. Membership requests have tapered off to a reasonable rate, and we will be checking attendance monthly to keep membership on a rolling basis now (removing inactive members, adding new ones). You can still request to join to get your name on the pending membership list but please know that it could be at least a few weeks until we add anyone. Thanks for your interest!
New to town? Friends moving away? Looking for new, fun friends that you'll see more than once at meet-up events? Then The Girls (Madison) is for you!
Modeled off of a great meet-up I joined a few years ago when I was new to a different town, this group is run slightly differently than most meet-up groups to encourage people to participate in events with some frequency. Membership is limited to ~75 (give or take a couple dozen) actively involved women, and you're required to attend an event within the first 4-6 weeks of joining. Then, attend another event every month or two, for as long as you're interested in being part of the group! (understandably people get busy so there is definitely some leniency in the attendance 'rules,' once you establish yourself as an active member). The other guideline we've set is for late cancellations, which were starting to hamper some of the fun of being an event organizer for an event that needed some significant amount of pre-planning. In some cases, an RSVP deadline will be noted in the event description; you can change your mind as often as you'd like up until that point. Everyone gets 2 no-questions-asked late cancellations/no-shows after the deadline per 6 events they attend, but please do update your RSVP and/or send a note to the event organizer so she knows not to wait for you.
Message me, Sarah, the organizer, and tell me a bit about yourself and why you're interested in joining. So far our events have included brunches, dinners, drinks (coffee + alcoholic), crafts, outdoor adventures, movie outings, sports watching, game nights and a holiday party, and we're always looking for new ideas. Hikes, crafts, pot-lucks, happy hours, book clubs...you name it! Looking forward to meeting everyone!
[Worried about a group with rules? I admit I was at first hesitant to join one, but the semi-regular 'required' attendance made my old group so fantastic to be a part of because I got to have multiple interactions with the same women, many of whom I'm still friends with today!]
