Photo Contest: This may not be here tomorrow

Photo Contest: "This may not be here tomorrow"

This will be a photo challenge with a twist. It will have a winner for the most liked picture and the prize is a 16x20 print, totally free.

The theme "This may not be here tomorrow" relates to images of anything material, natural or abstract threatened by extinction, destruction, oblivion or obsolescence. Including buildings, people, ideas, technology; we want to preserve the images that the next generation may not have the privilege to see; your imagination is the threshold.

Images can be uploaded after Feb 10 and the deadline for submissions is Feb 23, 2013. No limit for entries, as far you are pretty sure of the quality of the images. If you want to participate make sure you RSVP before Feb 10, even if you don't have images ready for upload. That can be done later but before the deadline.

A link to the image posted here will be placed at: http://www.facebook.com/AlfredoTisiImagery and the image with more likes on Feb 25 at noon will win a 16x20 print in metallic paper, fine art paper or canvas from AlfredoTisi Imagery. You don't have to upload a big size file but make sure that you have a file that can be printed at that size.

Although only members can participate anybody can vote, so tell your friends to go to the Facebook page and like your photo.

The files have to be your own creation, if possible include a discreet watermark to protect your rights.
In case of a tie, the organizers will decide witch is the winning image. You don't need to submit a recent picture picture.

Good luck, work out your imagination and have fun!

"And the winner is..." This is a good day to announce the winner of our "Photo Contest": the "Tiger in the Snow" picture by Cindy received 15 likes and is the most voted. Congratulations Cindy, it's a beautiful composition. Maybe it's a good idea if you share the technical details, like where was taken, when and the gear specs. I will be sending a email to Cindy with details for the printing of this image. I hope that everyone have enjoyed the experience and felt more inspired with those images. For me was a great experience to organize and sponsor this event. Thanks very much to you all that have participated!

The Tiger in the Snow was taken at the LA Zoo. He's one of the 2 brothers that were frolicking that day. They really loved being back in the snow, complete with a snowman filled with Tiger food. I used my walk around lens - Nikkor[masked]mm and a Nikon D7000. The exposure was set at 1/800 sec at f/8.0 Focal Length 200mm ISO at 500 ( pretty dark in there with the bright snow made it a bit tricky) Have a lot of respect for those who shoot in the snow. You know we don't do that very often here. The camera was set on Manual (M) and those are pretty much the specks.

Thank you for sharing this specs Cindi!

there are some really good photos here.
should do it again with a different theme

      Agreed again.

Again would be great! Thanks Alfredo for keeping it alive.

For any contest, there should be a very small set limit of submissions. Some have spammed this one.

    February 21, 2013

  • Alfredo T.

Thank you all, next will be better, always learning!

    February 22, 2013

  • Alfredo T.

Two more days to vote the best photo, so far we have 104 images in the contest. Who's going to win? Ask your friends to help you. The campaign is still going on!

    February 21, 2013

  • Alfredo T.

The contest is still running, Saturday 23rd is the last day to post your photo, time is getting short if you want to get a lot of "likes".

    February 18, 2013

  • Alfredo T.

Facebook let me post again today. I will be posting little by little along the day. Keep voting, don't just upload, be sporty and vote for others photos, at least the one you think that deserves a like.
Again use common sense, some photos are not sticking to the theme. Plus don't exaggerate on quantity over quality. It's not being easy to upload to Facebook. That's the second time I'm posting about that. I don't want to change the rules so have conscience, please. Thank you all.

maybe, to be fair, the people that contributed the photos should not vote. ask other members of the meetup to vote.

      February 14, 2013

    • Alfredo T.

Since he beginning was established that all member sand non members could vote, so that was the rule.

      February 15, 2013

  • Anna

    So many great photographs!!!

    February 14, 2013

  • Alfredo T.

Right now all photos posted on the Meetup website (with 3 exceptions, whose photographers were already emailed about). All images are ready to be voted. There are amazing pictures and regular pictures, some nail the theme, some are far away. In my opinion there's no voting going on so the best may not win. Please all participants be nice and vote sincerely in those you really think deserve to win, let's exercise democracy! Thanks you all

Is there a direct link to the posted photos in your facebook. I cant seem to locate it.

This is happening to everyone. It's a bug on Meetup. To go around this go to the group main page and click on Photos and proceed normally. My Facebook page:

I uploaded the Tiger in the Snow again here. Not sure if that will change anything. The link still exists.

    Anybody else have this problem?

    February 12, 2013

    • Eric

If anyone is having a problem viewing, go to the Photos section under the Glendale Photography Group title. It should take you to all albums. From there, go to the event.

    February 12, 2013

  • Alfredo T.

Somehow when I click in the upload icon for all meeting I receive te message: "The page you're looking for doesn't exist."
This happens for all events, does anyone have the same problem? Please Help!

There seems to be a glitch or bug. It happens with me too.

So far the image with more "Likes"is the tiger in the snow photo, but I don't know who shot it because it seems that it was removed. Any clue?

      February 12, 2013

  • Graeme

Yes, the photo with upload written under it is a broken link. One can still upload and view the photos by clicking on "Photos" on the menu bar, then clicking on the photo contest group on the photos page.

    February 12, 2013

  • Alfredo T.

Hi Shelly. Yes I noticed that, but it is a Meetup website glitch. I'll try to contact them and fix it.

    February 12, 2013

  • Shelly

The link to the photos we have posted seems to be broken?

    February 12, 2013

  • Alfredo T.

Now Facebook blocked me for 2 days from posting! Allegedly I was "abusing that feature". You can keep working in your images and uploading them in the Meetup page but be aware that they will not be linked to the Face book page, blame Facebook...Any question please message me. I'm sorry, but we will continue the process after the block period. Please read this with attention:

I would ask participants to be self-critical and submit jobs that really are related to the theme and the best pictures only. Honestly, not wanting to be a judge, some photos have little connection with the subject. however I will leave this matter to the trial process. Quantity definitely will not make someone win.
Thanks will all, and keep working!

    February 12, 2013

    • Noel R

I think you should referee and delete images which you really think are not up to the theme. I won't take it personal if you want to delete some of mine. Also
I think it helps to add a caption so we can understand what the photog thinks. My 2 cents...

      1 · February 12, 2013

    • Alfredo T.

Thank you for your feedback Noel, but I do not like to change rules after the game started. I do think that the participants are not taking the voting process seriously. You are the one who are in charge! To demonstrate my impartiality I'm liking all images uploaded and that is the way I will keep doing.

OK Guys, you can start uploading your pictures. Tomorrow they will be linked to my Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/AlfredoTisiImagery

Hello Alfredo... "This may not be here tomorrow" could be me!... but I'm planning on being around for awhile... so I'll join the fun and send you a photo. Sorry you missed Norman Seeff's talk the other night, and I'm sorry I forgot to say hi to him for you. You'll have to ask Eric Tan about the event, for an unbiased answer. But I thought it was great. Will keep in touch. Best vibes.

    February 4, 2013

Thank you Dawn! I'll be in the next for sure!

Graeme is asking if self portraits are OK. I'm sure that everyone wishes that you stay around for a long time...But if that is your vision let's the group vote, we are a democratic group (no politics involved).

Wow! Its getting pretty serious here! The heavy weights are signing in! I don't mean heavy in the scale but in the skills! That's is going to be really fun and I can't wait to see the images!
