Find yourself free on Mother's Day? Well, why not join us at JP Morgan's church, St. George, where they will be celebrating the Feast of St George, followed by a community picnic and BBQ! Hopefully, this will be a lot of fun, like that food after the Irish Mass at the old cathedral last year. Morgan was quite active in this church, and it was the site of his 1913 funeral as well. And since I guess JP Morgan's prayers for a successful business certainly were answered, maybe this is your lucky church, too :)

St. George's Church goes back a long way, to its founding in 1749, as a chapel of Trinity Church on Beekman Street in lower Manhattan. In 1846, St. George’s moved to its present location on Stuyvesant Square. Stuyvesant Square is a little-known park east of Third Avenue. You can't miss the church once you get down there--a big imposing brownstone facade. Here's a link to an interesting article about St. George's Church from a college newspaper, including an assassination attempt there on Morgan himself (haven't verified that myself yet, but it's a good yarn notwithstanding): and here's another link to a (brief!) description of the event itself:

How to meet us: Meet us at 10:30am just inside the church vestibule. Please be prompt for this one, as we'll want to go inside quickly to be seated before the service starts at 11am. I will be holding my hand-scrawled MEETUP sign.

Admission: No admission fee per se to St. George's Church, but there might be a collection or request for free will offering, so be prepared for that. There are, however, special instructions for the potluck picnic. If your last name begins with A-H, please bring a main course; I-P, bring a side dish, and Q-Z, bring a dessert. Of course, probably nobody knows your last name there, so as long as you bring something, that should be good! We do also have our own $1 fee to help defray the costs of maintaining this meetup group, payable to the organizer.
