What we're about

"We are what we eat." This is a support group to encourage each other to learn about and to eat nutrient-dense foods---lots of vegetables and fruits. It is truly amazing what healthy eating and exercise can do for preventing heart disease, preventing cancer, preventing diabetes and other ailments!

These doctors advocate no-oil, no-sugar, and minimally-processed food. Oil-free because all oils (even olive oil) are very high in calories with no nutrients to speak of. All oils are very highly-processed. (Better to eat the olive rather than the olive oil.)

The studies on olive oil are misleading because they compare olive oil to even worser oils. There are no studies comparing olive oil to simply getting your fat from real food that has nutrients in it.

Dr. Esselstyn has done studies showing the harmful effects of olive oil on the endothelial cells of the arteries. Other oils would be even worse on heart health.

Spring-Has-Sprung 2.5 mile walk. For those who are hungry after we are finished with the walk, we'll have a bite to eat on the second floor in the cafe area. (Mariano's has lots of vegan choices.) Note: There is free parking--- behind the building and also on the roof.


Roots Handmade Pizza

ROOTS HANDMADE-PIZZA in Lincoln Square has tasty, fresh food. There are some delicious and interesting vegan pizza choices. One can also order gluten free crusts. This restaurant has the BEST SALAD that I know of in Chicago. Each person will pay only for what he or she orders. Lots of restaurants do not like to split up different charge cards. So PLEASE BRING CASH so that we can make it easier to get individual checks.
