The Hike: Devils Gulch - Barnabe Peak - Etc.

WOW, time flies when you’re having fun. (or -having- projects). What better time than the day after Thanksgiving to think about a hike. Welcome to all the people who have joined since the last meetup; don't want them to get the impression that this group never posts any events....

Devil's Gulch to Barnabe Peak - Etc

This is a nice trail, it ascends moderately and consistently to Barnabe peak, has beautiful forest and cover, cool in hot weather, lush forest in wet. There is a decent climb, starts at about 200’ elevation, Barnabe Peak is about 1400’. Near the beginning, I would like to take the side jaunt over to the falls that I have not yet seen. The woods opens up into grasslands near the top. At the top we can take a lunch break and enjoy the views. Feel free to bring something to share... including for instance... leftover apple pie.... anyone....please...mmm. The way down is more open with grasslands and views.

About 8-9 miles. ~1200’ gain.

When: 9:30 AM, Sunday, November 25, 2012

I will be there rain or shine. Love the rain, especially hiking in it! Right now they are only giving a 10% chance of rain, shucks. On this shorter than usual notice, there may be a small group. Any number is good 1, 2, 5, 20...

Meeting Location: Devil’s Gulch Parking Lot /

Pullout a little west of Samuel P Taylor State Park on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. If you are heading west on Sir Francis Drake Blvd, drive past the State Park Entrance. The parking lot is on the left. The sign is on the right and could be missed if not careful. This description works if you copy it into Google Maps: “Sir Francis Drake Blvd and Devils Gulch Fire Road Nicasio, CA”

Suggested Carpool locations:

Rohnert Park -Park and Ride, Rohnert Park expressway and 101 - Southbound "Rohnert Park Expressway/Hwy. 101. Within southbound on-ramp area South of bridge."
leave at 8:30am. (10 min to Petaluma park and ride)

Petaluma Park Park and Ride, Lakeville St and 101 S:
leave at 8:40am. (21 miles / 43 min to Meeting Location)

I will be swinging through the carpool locations listed and leaving at the listed times. I plan to take the back roads from Petaluma, so please plan any carpool from locations north or south

NOTE: It is possible I will have a borrowed vehicle with only 2 seats. If so, I will still swing through the carpool locations. We can either carpool from there or if it helps you, you could follow another driver. I plan to take back roads from Petaluma, so please plan any carpool outside these locations below or otherwise.

Trail-head depart Time: We should be on the trail shortly after 9:30am.

While you are ultimately responsible for your own comfort and safety, I suggest:

Always bring plenty of water! Always important, especially important when hot.

Bring layered clothing. It could be hot or it could be cold and windy.

Wear sturdy shoes/boots.

Bring plenty of food.

Don’t attempt the hike unless you are confident it is a reasonable hike for you.

I also request that you:

Are courteous and respectful of others.

Bring a positive attitude and open mind.

Take responsibility for yourself.

Come ready for a good day.

Hope to see you there!

One of the most trails that offer the mostest. Lush fern/moss ravine, water fall, and views galore at the peak!

That's too bad. Would have loved to meet you all, but we haven't hit the trail in a while and the dog is getting restless. Might opt for Bolinas ridge instead.
