Yellow Stand Trail, Big Frog Wilderness
About The Trail: This is a very nice, yet little-used trail in the Big Frog Wildness, approximately 30 minutes from Blue Ridge. We'll do a loop, starting on the Yellow Stand Trail and connecting through and returning on the Big Creek Trail, for about six miles total. Level: Not much elevation gain, so the hike should take about two+ hours. Please note that while the hike and grade is fairly easy, we'll travel at a 3 mph pace, so this hike should be for intermediate to advanced hikers. What You'll Need: Please make sure to bring some food, water, snacks, and some interesting stories, as well as a towel and shirt change for the ride home. Though hiking sticks may be helpful to some, no other equipment is needed. Note: There is one tiny stream crossing, but it normally is very shallow (meaning ankle height), so make sure you have either waterproof shoes or water moccasins. And as always, no dogs or children. For more about this trail, go to http://www.hikinginthesmokys.com/big_frog_cohutta_wilderness.htm Meeting Spot: Either meet at the Yellow Stand trailhead at 11:30am, or the Ocoee Visitors Center off of Route 64 at 11:00am. To get to the Visitors Center: from Blue Ridge, take Rte 5 north through McKaysville and Copperhill (take the left at the T intersection just after the bridge), then a left onto Route 64 for about five minutes. The Visitors Center will be on your left. FYI, if you have time, get to the Visitors Center early as this was where the whitewater events for the '96 Olympics was held and you have some great scenery. Carpool Options: I will run one carpool; we'll meet at the Best Buy near North Point Mall (exit 9 off of 400) at 8:45 (and leave by 9:00am). Please email me if you'd like to carpool with me, or send a group email if you'd like to get a group to carpool from a different location. Please note that your email to carpool helps me know who is coming and determine how many cars we'll need. However, due to the volume of emails I receive, I do not respond to each one individually. See you on the trail! Charlie

What we're about

Public Group

Fresh air, beautiful streams, peace and quiet, my heart sings in the forest! Join me for selected hikes in the ATL / N ATL area. We'll do one or two hikes a month in various locations. Stay active...make new friends...what could be better? BTW, we won't be playing other teams; "league" refers to a unit of measurement, but still sounds cool! See you on the trails!
