Houston Weekly French Conversation Group in Rice Village/West U

French Connection Houston is a weekly French conversation group that meets at La Madeleine in Rice Village/West U every Wednesday night. This French conversation group has been meeting regularly since 1997.

Time:8:30PM to 10:30PM

We speak only in French, discussing everything and nothing. Our group is pretty casual - There is no set agenda or structure. Everyone in the group is quite friendly and nice. Just stop by and introduce yourself, pull up a chair, and join in. Or, you can just sit there, listening to the conversation in French until you feel comfortable enough to join in - no pressure. The group is easily spotted (listen for people speaking in French! Often, I bring little table-top French flags) -- If the weather is nice, we are often sitting outside. There are usually at least 30 people each Wednesday meeting. Sometimes, we number around 40 or so people, and a few times, I've counted as many as 50 people. The only cardinal rule as to this group is that ONLY French is to be spoken. If you are caught speaking any other language other than French at a Wednesday meet-up, please don't be surprised if the other members scold you, "fine" you, or ask you to leave (actually, we're not that mean -- I just have to put that there because sometimes people have complained about a bunch of people showing up, speaking only English, which detracts from what people go to this weekly group for, i.e. to practice speaking French, hence this mean-sounding warning). Don't worry if your French is a little rusty - it comes back quickly.

Depends on the particular meetup. Each meetup event description will include any specific requirements associated with that particular meetup. The Wednesday evening meetup at La Madeleine's on Kirby is generally French-speaking only.

Does the condition, of everybody speaking French language only, still exist? I am not scared, you will see next time but then please don't blame me if you don't understand my French.
