We are the Socialist Reading Group of Houston, the oldest continuous Marxist reading group in Texas started in 1988 !. Come join us every other week to study classical and current texts in progressive thought and Marxism. Each week, we read a chapter from a book, a political pamphlet, or an essay and then carry on a collective discussion about the reading. Sometime we will have guest speakers. Our primary purpose is to increase our understanding of socialism, in both realms of theory and practice. Each week, a different person volunteers to guide us through the text, in whatever way he or she desires to do so. Everyone is welcome to attend. People from diverse political backgrounds come to our group. In the past, we have read works by Marx, Lenin, Engels, Rosa Luxemburg, Marxist economists, and less well known socialist authors. Everyone is welcome to attend who has an interest in furthering the struggle for socialism.
