The Houston Stoics is a forum where individuals from the Houston area can discuss aspects of Stoic philosophy and practice, as well as make plans to meet up regularly.
"Stoicism has provided me with a sense of profound tranquility, a good life filled with gratitude and a sense of meaning". These are some of the benefits of living a Stoic life. Stoicism is the practice of gradually changing the way we look at life, finding new and improved perspectives on our specific concerns, to arrive eventually at a point where our worries and anxieties are defeated, or our irrational fears removed. Stoicism promotes mindfulness, generosity and compassion, and in effect, our lives are given new meaning and purpose. Join the group to find out more.
Our next meeting is on Saturday, April 20th, at Berryhill restaurant in the Heights, from 3-5pm. If the weather is good we can sit outside again, otherwise we’ll be inside.
We will be discussing up to Chapter 25 in the Enchiridion. We decided at the last meeting to move a bit quicker through the text. I don’t imagine that we will be discussing each chapter individually and in detail, however please bring any comments or thoughts you have on these chapters and share it at the meeting.
You can read the chapters online here: http://classics.mit.edu/Epictetus/epicench.html
