So how about Christmas in a speakeasy? I'm always on the hunt for something different and this seemed to be a novel way to celebrate Christmas, our group & history (genealogy). Meeting on the 2nd floor of Garfunkel's, a charming spot, named after two private bankers turned criminal fugitives, we will enjoy an afternoon tea set up. To mean we will have a beautiful selection of savories (sandwiches), sweets, scones, tea (vegetarian options included). It should make for a nice afternoon and we'll incorporate some genealogy aspects too into the mix. I'm suggesting you bring a photo (of interest to your family history), a new discovery, recommended research site, tip or request for recommended next step in research. Oh and to gain entry - it's a speakeasy after all - you need to enter via The Burgary...
The cost is $29 per person + tax and tip to bring it to all in $38. Alcoholic drinks (beer, wine, etc) are extra and are payable on the day. As I need to pay a deposit any requests for refunds will be only up to 48HRS from the event.
If the meetup system works you should see request for pre payment otherwise will need to post as a new meetup.
Look forward to seeing you in a few weeks!
The speakeasy owes its name to the felonious private bankers-turned–criminal fugitives, Garfunkel & Tauster, who originally used the location as their corrupt bank firm in the 1920’s. To remind guests of the building’s exciting history, a functional bank vault door is used as the entrance into the wonderful Gatsby-esque speakeasy. ABOUT the AFTERNOON TEA
Amy Dubin is a tea importer and she conducts these popular afternoon teas. She shared some photos of past events and it seemed like a different way to bring the group together and make for a seamless experience.
