For family researchers, census "population schedules" are familiar and indispensible research tools. However, they are often underutilized. Sometimes, key clues hiding in plain sight get overlooked. Learn how to squeeze more information from the census when you research your family.

Meldon J. Wolfgang III is an author, teacher, lecturer and founder of Jonathan Sheppard Books, Mr. Wolfgang served for many years as a city government department head in Albany. His knowledge of library and archival resources comes from years of "inside" experience. He was a trustee of the Albany Public Library and also served on the advisory board of one of the joint Albany City-County Archives. Since 2005, he has written the genealogy column for "Archives", the quarterly publication of the New York State Archives Partnership Trust. He is a member of both the Education Committee and the board of the Family History School of the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society.
