What we're about
This is a group for anyone interested in gentle movement. From walks around the neighborhood, to hikes (and hikes with pets), to full-on tennis matches. The activity is not important, what's important is movement and enjoyment. All activity levels and skill levels are welcome. This is a NO JUDGMENT ZONE where there is strictly NO DIET talk and NO BODY talk.
I wanted to start The Joy of Movement to help people like me find pockets of time throughout the week, and/or weekends, to fill with gentle movement for the sole purpose of movement. And it would be better to do it with like-minded people!
As an Intuitive Eater, I never focus on dieting, or exercise for weight loss or fat burning, or anything of that nature. Intuitive Eating is an approach developed to help people heal from the side effects of chronic dieting. An intuitive eater is defined as a person who “makes food choices without experiencing guilt or an ethical dilemma, honors hunger, respects fullness and enjoys the pleasure of eating." Part of being an Intuitive Eater is finding joy and love in gentle movement. This group's focus is not on weight loss or calorie counting, but on finding movements that we enjoy doing for the sake of loving to move our bodies.
It bears repeating: The Joy of Movement is strictly a NO DIET and NO BODY talk group. It's simply a group for people of all shapes and sizes, able-bodied or not, to come together and as a group find joy in movement. Activities will not be set in stone, as they can be discussed here and adapted to our specific interests and needs.
