Update as of 8.15.16: As it is right now, I've decided to keep this group to the current size of around 20, meaning I'm not adding any more new members. If you still have interest in joining, you can still submit and sit tight. As folks drop off I may decided to add new folks? Or if I really like what I see, I'll add you. I will require images for me to view. If you have no link to images, it's instant decline. Please read to the end about joining requirements.
Hello! I've been toying with the idea of starting this group for a long time... Sorry this is so long. Lots to say I guess?
I like to take pictures and getting out with others is a way to do it as I'm lazy. I find I hardly ever get out to take pictures. My many cameras are sitting around collecting dust! What's worst is that I feel totally unmotivated. Some mornings I wake up and think, wow, today would be a great day to get out! and then I don't. Or hey the weather is going to be good tomorrow, maybe I should get out, and don't. So I hope that starting a group close to home with some like minded and creative folks, I'll have a need to get out there and snap a few!
Here is what this group is NOT: it's not a place for you to show off your fancy digital camera or to gloat about all your achievements or bore others with your catalog of work no matter how much *you* think it's great. Don't expect this group to help you with a "budding" photography career. I won't be hosting classes.
Here what this group IS: folks who like to take photos with other folks. I would like to think most of us have some creativity in what we shoot.
We will aim to have one event a month, maybe 2 or as they come along. (Summer is approaching!) And suggestions for events from others group members is always good. Sometimes I get stuck doing the same old thing... I live in Everett which means the events for this group with take place in Everett and possibly nearby areas such as Mukilteo or Snohomish. You don't live in Everett? That's fine. You don't feel like coming to Everett? Don't join this group. I mean it. I don't live in Seattle, but I often make what can be a two hour commute into the City for Meetup events. I want members who will participate. I'm looking to build a small group. If there are only 20 members, great. Less, that's OK too. If you are accepted into this group and don't make events I will eventually remove you. I also don't tolerate No-Shows so this means you MUST change your RSVP status or leave a note on the event, otherwise you are a "no-show". Unlike other groups I organize for, I will be selective as I'm trying to create a small creative group of photo peeps who mesh well together so this means you will have to be approved for membership. I will weed folks out that don't participate. And if by chance I happen to know you from another photography group and I don't add you, it just means I don't think you'd be a good fit for my group.
I generally shoot film. I love instant! I have all types of film cameras. My digital is my mobile phone. It does a pretty good job.
Still interested? Great. Show me some of your work, tell me a little bit about yourself. I have no interest in stealing your images or using them for any purpose other than to view your portfolio. Don't tell me you have stuff on Facebook; if only we were Facebook friends... 1) I don't do Facebook. 2) it's usually not public and 3) not looking to see the latest family holiday snap shots. Oh wait! Now I sound like a snob. But really, open a free Flickr account or G+ if you don't have an Instagram feed or something else that is public and *include* that account in the profile setup (folks seem to miss this step). I want to see what you shoot. No images = instant decline. I'm not judging, but yeah, I'm judging. When I first wrote this up I didn't really care what you shot or your style, but after some thinking (and viewing), I do care what you shoot and your style. I want to see how creative you are, what kind of "eye" you have, and what your interests are. Like I said, I'm not a pro. I'm a hobbyist. I have some training. I don't have a style. If you dig through my Flickr profile you can find me on Flickr. And in turn, you can judge me. You may like what I do or not. I don't do anything fancy. I just take pictures. But I like to think there is some thought behind them. For the most part. Don't fault me, due to lack of motivation you will find a lot of beer and food photos... Guilty.
