Ayubowan – in Sinhala, means "welcome, greetings and I wish you a long and prosperous life". Numi is on a mission to introduce you to the hidden culinary treasures of Sri Lanka. Come and discover the undiscovered cuisine of South Asia at her home-based cookery school in South London.

Sri Lankan cuisine blends a diverse array of fruits, vegetables, seafood, meats, spices and coconuts into a unique culinary experience, based on the island’s proximity to the Indian Ocean, and influences from South India, Persia, Malaya and the European colonial settlers.

Food is an integral part of Sri Lankan culture and is the primary means by which Sri Lankans interact socially. Food in this tradition is not about nutrients and calories – it’s about sharing, it’s about identity, it’s about hospitality. Food is Sri Lankans' common ground and is a universal means of expression.

The most conventional meal in Sri Lanka consists of rice and several curry dishes, generally involving one meat/seafood dish and additional vegetable dishes, accompanied by an assortment of sambols, chutneys, pickles & salads. It's also worth noting that Sri Lankan cuisine is also a vegetarian’s heaven!

This experience includes making the following dishes and lasts for 3.5 hours including prep time, interactive cooking time, Q&A time, and of course time to eat your scrumptious meal! You’ll also receive a printed recipe for each dish and a starter pack of spices to take away with you.
    • Dhunthel Bath – Ghee rice
    • Harak Mas Gam Miris Baduma – Pepper and spice beef steak fry
    • Gova Kirata – Cabbage curry with coconut milk
    • Ala Theldala – Devilled potato with caramelised onions
Book now to learn how to entertain your dinner guests with some authentic Sri Lankan cooking!
