Open Garden Squares Weekend (Sunday)

Update/more information

I have uploaded a proposed itinerary for Sunday here http://www.meetup.com/Museums-Galleries-and-More/files/ .  As we will be a large group I suggest people gather in smaller groups and move at your own pace, but follow the itinerary so we meet up at key points.  I will print out a number of copies of this but if a few people can print out their own copies that would be helpful.  To summarise, the plan is:

10.00 - meet at Earl's Court (Piccadilly Line and non-Wimbledon bound District Line are working)
10.30 - start going round the first group of gardens
12.30ish - quick coffee stop around Earls Court, then 2 more gardens
[masked] - lunch (suggest we lunch at Kensington High Street, then bus on to Notting Hill Gate)
2.15-approx 3.30/4 - Notting Hill gardens
4.00 - pub (suggest The Old Swan Pub).

Please amend your RSVP if you can no longer come, and I will review the waiting list tomorrow afternoon.  I don't mind having a large group on Sunday, but it will mean operating fairly independently in smaller groups on the day using the itinerary.

My phone number is[masked] - but if you are a bit late you have a map of where we are going after 10.30.

====================================

Apologies to members of the Museums, Galleries and More Group who will get this twice, but I am aware that this may appeal to Gentle Walkers who may be interested (and not that into cultural events).  No need to RSVP in both groups - just one or the other.

Join me for a Sunday in this year's Open Garden Squares weekend.  I'll put more information up in a few weeks, but I propose that this year we go west - to the gardens of Kensington and Brompton and around in the morning, then after lunch to Notting Hill and its private gardens and squares.  Meet from 10 for a 10.30 start.

More info on ticket prices etc here http://www.opensquares.org/index.html - buying tickets in advance is usually a bit cheaper and your ticket covers Saturday as well, which may be covered by another group (or you can do alone/with a friend/ etc).  I will also start us somewhere you can buy tickets on the day (not all the gardens can do this).

An early start to get the most out of the day - we'll have a ambitious schedule to cover and finish around 4ish for tea/early drink somewhere.

Please make sure you come out of the correct exit at Earls Court - don't take the exit for the exhibition centre.

The link to the itinerary file should work for you all now. If not there's another copy on this site at More/Files.

Don't forget that you will need to have a ticket - these can be purchased from http://www.opensquares.org/ or on the day (it's cheaper to do it online, and cheaper still if you are a National Trust member).

    June 12, 2014

    • Alison

Yes, at the first garden. It's cheaper online though.

      June 12, 2014

    • Alison

£12 on the day, £10 in advance as per the Open Squares website.

Am intending to buy ticket on day... but can I be sure there will be tickets left? Will I end up in long queue?

    June 12, 2014

    • Alison

While I can't ever guarantee anything, buying tickets on the day in the past for these events has not been a problem. If you are anxious about it my advice would be to get to Earls Court a bit earlier and go to gardens number 16, 20 7 or 2 on the map before we set off at 10.30. We go to garden 7 first which sells tickets, and we should be okay at 10.30 in the morning, but you might want to sort this earlier.

    • Alison

Sorry meant to add that these gardens tend to open at 10 - check the Open Squares website though.

Unfortunately I cannot make it. I hope somebody can take my place

Hi, I wanted to bring a friend but RSVP won't allow me to add anymore. Can I bring a friend with me given its most likely few people will drop off last min?

    June 10, 2014

    • Alison

That should be fine - bring him along.

Sorry guys. Something came up. Have to unwillingly change my RSVP to No.

Hi, I live in NW London and often get the bus from Notting Hill to HSKen , it only takes about 10 mins. I may meet you at HSK as it's much easier to get there that Earls Court, especially if that's where we are starting. I'll wait for you to post though. Thanks

    June 10, 2014

    • Alison

We are still starting from Earls Court so you'll miss half the day. I'm just suggesting alternative ways to get to Notting Hill.

      June 10, 2014

    • Alex

      Oh sorry, I mis-read!

      June 10, 2014

  • Alison

As there's no District/Circle Line service from Earls Court to Notting Hill Gate this coming weekend we will have to seek alternative routes. If you don't mind walking, it's about 1.5 miles. Alternative (and what I shall probably do) it's about half a mile to Kensington High Street, and there are buses up to Notting Hill from there.

    June 9, 2014

    • Alison

Ok , although nothing has really changed, just an additional short walk at lunchtime. Earls Court is still accessible via the Piccadilly Line and non Wimbledon District Line routes.
