Come and explore the picturesque waters of the Solent! We’ve chartered a modern 37ft Beneteau Oceanis that’s coded for 8 people, but we’ll be 6 max. to ensure everyone has enough space and a proper chance to be involved in the sailing.
Our final itinerary will be tailored to the weather and the group’s wishes, but typically: We meet at the yacht (or pub) at 7-8pm on Friday. On Saturday, after breakfast and a safety briefing, we sail out into the Solent and head for Yarmouth or Lymington, usually anchoring for lunch in Newtown Creek or the Beaulieu River. On Sunday we sail back to Hamble, again pausing for lunch en route. We don’t have to clean or refuel the boat.
About me (the Skipper)
I love sailing and, over the last 4 years, have clocked up (as Skipper) over 45 days / 900 miles on bareboat charter yachts from 37’ to 50’, mainly in the Solent but also in the Med and Caribbean. I have RYA Day Skipper (tidal), VHF and First Aid qualifications, and am happy to informally coach others and get everyone involved in running the boat.
This is a non-commercial trip, run on a shared-cost basis at £170 per person (plus £12 to LSC for non-members). That covers yacht charter, fuel, marina fees, breakfasts, lunches, snacks, hot/soft drinks and bottled water. It doesn’t cover evening meals or getting yourself to/from Port Hamble Marina. I ask for a deposit of £85 to reserve your place, with the remaining £85 due 21 days before the trip.
Port Hamble Marina, Satchell Lane, Hamble-le-Rice, SO31 4QD. The closest station is Hamble (2 miles away) but, if training from London, it’s quicker to alight at Southampton Airport Parkway and share a lift/taxi from there. I usually drive down and am happy to offer a free lift or two.
What to bring
No special or expensive kit required – just practical footwear and clothing to suit the weather. Lifejackets are provided. Towels and bedding aren’t provided, so bring a towel, pillow and sleeping bag. Pack swimwear if you fancy a dip, and don’t forget sunglasses, sun-cream and a hat! Use a soft bag rather than a hard suitcase.
How to sign up
RSVP on this site but please also email me at [masked] so I can confirm your place and send instructions for the deposit.
