Dream Tracking - The Indigenous Way - African Sangoma Shamanism

Dream-Tracking The Indigenous Way

Learn to connect with your dreams, ancestors and nature in a dynamic earth centred way from an indigenous Xhosa Sangoma from South Africa.

The Xhosa Sangoma medicine people represent one of the most ancient shamanic lineages on the planet today. John Lockley has been working as an indigenous Xhosa Sangoma for over 15 years and has travelled the globe teaching people how to connect to their ancestors and dreams. He works closely with his teacher and community in the Eastern Cape, South Africa where he holds traditional ceremonies for 3 months every year. Thereafter he travels around Europe and America, wherever his dreams take him.

This unique event involves a one day ceremony where participants will engage with ancient Sangoma practices to connect with their Ancestors, dreams, one another and nature.

Participants will learn:

  • Mindfulness meditation focused on the heart beat.
  • Ancient Sangoma ‘Ingomas’ or chants and rhythms to bring them to a deep state of relaxation and connection.
  • The Sangoma ‘trance’ dance or ‘xentsa’ to connect with their spirit.
  • The art of Dreaming: How to distinguish between prophetic dreams and every day dreams.
  • How to stimulate and increase one’s dreams.
  • Learning to navigate the jungle of dreams and ‘see’ the invisible tracks that lead us to our personal ‘gold’ or spiritual abundance. This represents our personal connection to spirit and our destiny or ‘life path’. If everyone followed this invisible track there would be more contentment and peace in the world.

The day will be filled with; ceremony, stillness, dreams, dancing, drumming, singing and rhythm work.

There will also be time for people to ask questions and discuss how they can fulfil their life-path or spiritual calling.

About John

According to John’s Xhosa elders in the Eastern Cape, John Lockley is one of the first white men, in recent history, to become a fully initiated Sangoma in the Xhosa lineage of South Africa – the tribe that gave us Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Sangomas receive guidance (through dreams and trance) from ancestors in the spirit world, in order to heal and guide the community. Sangomas are South African Shamans, meaning seers, dreamers or prophets – the traditional healers of Africa.

John was recently interviewed by Earth Medicine Alliance in San Francisco. Please click here to watch the interview.

Personal Divination Sessions

9th June - London

As an addition to the one-day Ceremony workshop on the Saturday - John is offering the opportunity the possibility for people to have one-on-one divination sessions. These sessions will be open to a limited number of people on a first come first served basis on the following day - Sunday 9th June.

Traditional African divination involves looking into the ‘soul’ of the client and channeling information from the ancestral/spirit world in order to help people on their Life Path. This type of divination can be very helpful in guiding you to your life’s purpose as well as forging a path of re-connection to your ancestors and spirit guides.

Each session is performed in a ceremonial way. John and the client sit on the floor with bare feet (no shoes) and assume a meditative posture.

John does a divination using ‘bones’(shells, stones and other sacred objects). He goes into meditation and connects with his ancestral spirit guides, as well as the spirits of the client to search, divine or ‘see’ what is happening with the client emotionally, physically and spiritually. The bones reveal the ‘spiritual constellation‘ of the client’s life, showing for instance, their connection to their Ancestors, life-path/destiny, calling, gifts, etc.

Sangoma (or traditional shamanic) sessions differ from traditional psychotherapy in that when someone is consulting with a sangoma it is widely believed they are consulting with not only the individual in front of them, but also the shamanic lineage that they are connected to.  John’s ancestral spirits or guides help to heal the person at a soul level, and sometimes a person might feel the effects of a session for weeks, months or even years afterwards.

Each individual session lasts for one hour and is priced at £81.
