Needs a location
Update: 9/15/10, 1 PM
We will be outside for the potluck today at Tenney Park.
We will meet at one of two places and you will find where we end up by looking for the now-familiar pink flamingoes!
The first place to look will be the shelter by the tennis courts. If the shelter is in use or is too crowded/noisy, then look for the picnic tables between the basketball court and playground that is across the bridge from the parking area.
(For those of you going to Tenney Park for the first time by car - please note that there is no entrance to the park from Johnson. From Johnson you will need to take Baldwin to Sherman and then take right into the access road that is next to the river.)
If the weather is nice this potluck will meet at the Tenney Park Shelter area instead of the Beach. I spoke with the City of Madison Parks office yesterday and they informed me that Tenney Park Beach is now officially closed and that the restroom facilities there will not be open. The restrooms at the Tenney Park shelter area, however, will still be open during daylight hours, so we will be moving the potluck to that location.
The street address for Tenney Park is 1414 East Johnson. You can find more information about Tenney Park here: http://www.cityofmadi... (http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/major/tenney.html). Other than this slight change of location, all of the other potluck details will remain the same.
Previous listing and details:
Weather permitting, the beach at Tenney Park will again be the location for the potluck on Wednesday, September 15. It will be great to take advantage of that great location once more while the weather is still warm (and it was nice to see so many coming by bike for the last potluck at Tenney Park Beach!). The park has restroom facilities and playground equipment for the kids. We will try to get the picnic tables close to the water, but consider bringing lawn chairs or blankets if you have them and are able, in case the picnic tables aren’t available. Regardless of where we meet, you will be able to find us by looking for the pair of plastic pink flamingoes!
Please note: while the street address for Tenney Park itself as given on the city parks website is 1414 East Johnson (here: http://www.cityofmadi... (http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/major/tenney.html) ) to drive to the beach and the beach parking lot you will turn from East Johnson onto Baldwin (heading toward Lake Mendota), take a quick right onto Sherman Avenue, and then a quick left into the beach parking lot. This potluck will take place rain or shine! Morris has generously offered to host the potluck in the event of bad weather. A final weather/location decision will be made by 1 PM on the day of the potluck, Wednesday, September 15. Check your email, our message board (which will have my contact information, should you need it) as well as this posting for this potluck on the day of the potluck for a final weather decision and directions to Morris’ should we need to meet there.
Our usual potluck guidelines will apply:
First off, we very much want to welcome our new members and those curious about the raw and living foods lifestyle. We encourage you to bring something very simple - some fresh, organic seasonal fruit, some cut up organic veggies, or some raw trail mix you can put together, for example. (If you need more ideas, contact David by using the “email me” link on the left side of web page.) More information for newcomers to our group can be found here: http://www.meetup.com... (http://www.meetup.com/The-Madison-Raw-Food-Meetup-Group/messages/boards/thread/7663889)
For each person attending bring one dish with at least eight servings to share, along with the appropriate serving utensils. One can reasonably expect this to cost somewhere around $15.00.
Please bring all of your own silverware, dishes, and cups that you will be using.
Please use organic ingredients whenever possible to prepare your dish, for increased nutrition, elimination of pesticides and genetically modified foods, and most importantly for your body and for the planet!
If dehydrating or warming your food, please do so at or below 105 degrees to ensure that the enzymes of the food remain intact and active.
Bring a copy of your recipe to place by your dish, so that others can copy it if they like what they tasted, and also so they can be able to make informed choices, should they not want to eat certain ingredients due to sensitivities or other personal reasons (such as nuts or Bragg's Liquid, for example). We will then post a message on the Madison Raw Food Meetup website where everyone can respond to and add their recipes for each particular potluck to share them with others
At the end of previous potlucks we often exchange our leftovers. Bring some extra containers if you want to join in on the fun.
Voluntary donations towards the costs of using our Meetup web presence ($144 annually) are greatly appreciated. It was suggested by our members that we should consider donating a dollar or two every potluck, which would quickly help us meet our costs.
Here’s hoping for fine weather for another evening of dining together by the lake!
