Announcing a new Meetup for The Monterey Bay Area Hiking Group!

What: Thursday Evening Hike: Quarry Park to Huckleberry Hill (~4 Miles, ~800 Feet)

When: Thursday, October 14,[masked]:00 PM

Price: $1.00 per person

Where: Via Paraiso Park
129 Via Paraiso
Monterey, CA 93940

Since Maria and I will be out of the country on our Himalayan trekking expedition, Rosio has graciously volunteered to lead this after-work / evening hike to Huckleberry Hill in Monterey, CA. This hike will yield about 4 miles of distance with roughly 800 feet of elevation gain. Our hike will start out at Via Paraiso Park and take us through Quarry Park on our way up to Huckleberry Hill Natural Preserve.

Via Paraiso Park
Corner of Herrman Drive & Via Paraiso
Monterey, CA 93940
(Curbside street parking available)

NOTE: The sun will be setting at 6:32 p.m. with civil twilight ending at 6:58 p.m. This means it will BE dark as we end our hike. Please bring headlamps or flashlights so that you may safely illuminate the foot path ahead of you as we make our way back to the cars.

Since there will be some elevation gain on this trek we will try to maintain between 2 to 2.5 mph average pace but expect to slow down somewhat on the inclines.

NOTE: There is one section of the trail on the ascent to Huckleberry Hill that will require climbing roughly 180 stairs. This portion of our route will be the steepest however it will guarantee the most exercise benefit once we've reached the top. And the gorgeous views of the Monterey Bay and surrounding areas will be a well-deserved treat to enjoy.

Walk will commence promptly at 10 minutes past the posted start time.

Please be aware that we expect you to take responsibility for your safety while we are out on the trails. This means being prepared with adequate hiking gear and making sure the difficulty level of the event IS NOT beyond the limits of your health & conditioning. We understand that your "Yes" RSVP to this event means you accept this. For more information regarding safety, please refer to the Monterey Bay Area Hiking Group "About" section for more details.
