Skate (Beginner) A Mini-Meetup

Bring your skates.  We are doing a short range skating ride on the sidewalk around the Grissom Trailhead.  Since I am at the beginner stage for this sport I will be wearing lots of armor, padding, gloves, and my helmet.   I am really a beginner.  We will probably have a range of about 1 mile.  Those of you that are good can come out to inspire us (or make us feel self conscious).  The good skaters can give advise but no one is expected to be a teacher or tutor to anyone else.  Just come out and have fun.

I will be wearing a blue shirt and black shorts. And skates.  We will skate for 60 to 90 minutes.

A few basic skills:

Good ride. I doubled my distance that I skate at a time. I went from about 30 feet last time to about 60 feet this time for each attempt. Good to have the grass on the side of the sidewalk to ride into. A little bit more secure on the skates but feet, ankles, knees get tired. Skates feeling more comfortable also. Getting used to them.

Went down to Mainland.the pavement in front of the apartments would be good for beginners. I'm not skating for a few days until these blisters heal.

This activity is just as daring and fun as mountain biking.burns a lot of calories if u go miles on a good brand pair of skates. Many types of skates that can handle bumps, cracks, loose pebbles on the pavement.many skates absorb shock. U can always upgrade your wheels according to your skate frame's maximum wheel size allowed. Some cities, countries hold inline speed marathons, freestyle/slalom,aggressive events. All types of skates to buy, just like bikes. Still wondering why San Antonio doesn't care for this.

We had finished riding at Leon creek and then I saw two skaters today riding toward us. As they passed I just yelled out that I was learning to do that but they did not react or say anything. I was thinking of letting them know about our group. Maybe they could have joined and added to the those that want to skate. I will keep practicing and posting skate meet-ups every now and then.

If anybody interested in skating, buy wrist guards, helmet, knee and elbow pads. Then eventually,if u are serious, buy a skate tool(your bike tool is good enough) to tighten/rotate the wheels, bearing cleaning solution, and bearing grease. Then later on,buy an extra set of 8 wheels (and maybe better skates)if u become an avid skater. Plenty of websites that sell this stuff. Very FUN activity ,especially on those muddy(non MTB days).

I should have my wrist guards before this meet-up. More armor means I can go faster. lol.
