Lake Georgetown (North of Austin) [Advanced]

  • Lake Georgetown - Cedar Breaks Park

Cedar Breaks Rd , Georgetown, TX (map)

  • I will e-mail my cell# to "Yes" rsvp's a day before the meetup. Look for the dark green mountain bike.
  • There is a 27 mile trail around Lake Georgetown. I have gone through it twice on two different occassions and it took me 5 to 6 hours each time. Probably should not mention that but it gives you an idea what to look forward to.  This trail system has everything. A lot of varied terrain.  There are some extremely challenging sections as well as some very sweet, rolling singletrack. What you leave the park with are memories of lots of rocks and a feeling of satisfaction at having completed the trail.  Anyway it is something to try.

This ride is not about speed but about making the distance through a difficult terrain.

    Here is my usual stuff:
As with any park we mountain bike there are smooth parts and rocky parts and any part that makes you uncomfortable you can walk though it. Make sure you have water(about 2 or 3 liters), sun block, and wear a helmet. Bring food and energy bars for yourself.  We will be riding for an unknown amount of time but I expect it to be more than 5 hours. When we ride we will have some rest stops along the way to let everyone catch their breath.  There is a place to refill our water at about miles 11.

Getting there: To get there head north on I-35 into Georgetown and turn left onto Highway 29 and head west. Turn right onto D.B. Wood Road and head north into Cedar Breaks Park. Obtain a trail map at the park entrance.

    Rain Cancels this event.

The deadline to rsvp "Yes" for this meetup is on the day before the ride.

If it rains in the next few days I have to cancel Georgetown ride. The trails and the rocks will not be dry in time for riding.

Brandy is your bike full suspension? Aari and I rode the trail on two different occasions 2 years ago and we have full suspension bikes. Its a rocky ride and we were hurting at the end when we finished. Using Padded shorts or a padded seat this time.

I bought a camera mount for the handlebars so I can take pictures of the trail during the ride.

Some of you supermen and superwomen need to sign up for this advanced 5.5 hour ride over rocky terrain. Its about perseverance.
