You've Joined So Now Let's Ride - Special Invitation

This is going to be a slow, no drop, get comfy on your bike kind of ride!  Many people have joined the group but not yet made it out.  Whether you have lots of experience or little, are slow or fast - come out and see what it is like to ride with the group.  Great opportunity to meet new members and perhaps make some riding buddies!

The meetup location is the first parking lot on the left after entering from Jones Maltsberger. I will be next to the playground, blue bike.

***DUE TO MUDDY TRAILS THIS IS A PAVED RIDE***

Make sure you have water, sun block, and wear a helmet.   Extra tubes and basic bike tools suggested, but not required.  We will stop for short water breaks.  It is recommended that you come hydrated.  Do not wait til mid ride to have your first sip of water.  It is hot and humid even at 9AM!  Bug spray is also suggested.  Mosquitoes are common especially after a rain.

Looking forward to meeting new people and seeing some from the past.

I had thought of it, but will stick with the mtb. I do not particularly like riding the mtb on paved, but oh well!

Traffic Alert!!! Starting later tonight, the highway dept. is closing all lanes of 281 north and south from Nacoma to Bitters in order to install the bridge beams over 281 for the Wurzbach Parkway. They will not re-open until early Monday AM. This means extreme gridlock on the secondary roads such as Nacoma, Jones-Maltsberger on the east, West Ave on the west, and Bitters on both sides. I suggest breaking out Google Maps to plan an alternate way to get to McAllister depending on which way you are coming from. FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED!!! or something like that. See everybody tomorrow, hopefully.

Thank you Cone for checking the conditions, we are on for tomorrow! Let's keep the meeting place the same, first parking lot on the left when entering from Jones Maltsberger. This will be a paved trail ride exiting the park following the Salado Creek Greenway through Los Patios, under 410 and towards Ft. Sam Houston. I will be asking for people to help lead/sweep.

We are on, but it will be on paved greenway

      June 27, 2014

It's up to Dee Dee to cancel if it rains more tonight, but otherwise we should be good to go with Plan B on the paved trails and down toward Tobin Park and beyond.

Thank you, Cone, for the update. Please let us know what it looks like today after work. If the boardwalk is underwater, the ride will be cancelled. That is our alternate route since no doubt the trails will be muddy :(

      June 27, 2014

    • Cone W.

Good news, Dee Dee. The water has receded below the boardwalk near Nacogdoches, so the paved trail down to Tobin and beyond should be good for tomorrow. I don't see much hope for the McAllister dirt trails, since that area seemed to be the epicenter of the Wednesday morning storm and took a lot of water. Also, remember there are three to four miles of paved loops within McAllister that will be good to go tomorrow.
