What we’re about

As public events start to return, TNC is evaluating its capacity to provide guided nature walks and lead volunteer workdays. We are planning an event series for Little Compton and Tiverton in Summer 2022. Please watch this space for further announcements. (5-3-22)

What is the name of that flower? Hey, is that poison ivy? What kind of animals live here?
When you hike with The Nature Conservancy, we'll answer those questions for you and at the same time, show you around some of the most beautiful places in Rhode Island.
The Nature Conservancy has helped protect more than 30,000 acres of open space in Rhode Island, including some of our most treasured landscapes: the historic farms of Jamestown, the "maze" at Clay Head on Block Island, and the beautiful, green forests around Arcadia. We also have a growing marine program, which is improving our understanding of the very valuable and fragile habitats off our coast, and working with local restaurants to restore wild oyster reefs in Ninigret Pond.
The Conservancy offers guided walks on its preserves, both on the mainland and Block Island. The walks are typically 2 miles long, and are organized around seasonal themes, such as vernal pools, birdwatching, fall foliage, etc. Occasionally, we will offer a longer hike at a preserve that can accommodate it, such as the Francis Carter Preserve or Tillinghast Pond Management Area, or at one of our partners' conservation areas. The length of time varies from group to group, but generally we'll hike at an easy pace that invites exploration and discovery. Leashed dogs are welcome, but please come prepared to keep the trail clean. These events are free, unless otherwise specifed.
Thank you for your interest in The Nature Conservancy's Meetup Group. With 65 miles of hiking trail on our Rhode Island preserves, we have a lot of ground to cover, and much that we want to share with you.
