  • A New-to-us Roof in Brooklyn!
Hi Rooftop Gardeners, I've seen the pictures and this two-level Brooklyn garden looks terrific! I missed the meetup last year and Larry is kind enough to host us again so I can see it this time! It looks beautiful enough to return to for those who made it last year. For newbies to the group, this is a great garden to start out your NYC roof exploring! Please join us - it's a really low key, friendly group. Regarding his roof spaces, Larry says: "After selling the Clinton-Hill brownstone Erik and I knew we need to continue gardening. We found this new apartment building nearby in Ft. Greene with 3 separate outdoor spaces and we knew it was for us. I grow herbs for cooking, annuals for summer color and perennials. We boast a 10-foot Kwanzan Cherry on the lower terrace where we dine during warm weather. Upstairs we have another terrace which leads to the common rooftop and our own pergola which supports our wisteria and clematis." He continues, "The garden has terrific views of the new downtown Brookyln skyline as well as views of Manhattan from the common area." So come check it out and please bring something to eat/drink/share and we will all enjoy Larry and Erik's roof terrace and roof garden together. Cheers! Leslie

  • Helga's Roof Terrace in the Heights
Let's go see how things are going in year 7 on Helga's gorgeous terrace. Last year Helga was growing blueberries! She has such interesting plants from all over, and is happy to share them with you. This outdoor space in Upper Manhattan is very special and close to the A train. This is a potluck so bring a snack or drink to share, please. Transportation: A-train to 190th Street. Make sure to take elevator to street, turn left one block to next intersection, look for the tallest building at that intersection. Helga is on the 2nd floor. Otherwise, M4 bus to corner of Ft. Washington Ave and 190th Street

  • Come with ideas for this new roof near Prospect Park
Our very brave and enthusiastic new roof gardener, Emily, is inviting a small group of us (RSVP early as we are limited to eight guests plus me and our host) to her roof-creation-in-process. As she begins kitting out her rooftop oasis, she has furniture and some newly started container gardening on this huge pre-war apartment building rooftop. Ideas are welcome, as are snacks and beverages to share. Can't wait to see all of you and how this rooftop treasure is developing. Cheers! Leslie
