Announcing a new Meetup for The New York Roofdeck and Roofgardening Meetup Group!

What: Sunday, May 2--noon-2 pm--Wildflower Roofdeck event in East Village

When: Sunday, May 2, 2010 12:00 PM

The Wild Project Theater Green Roof
195 East 3rd Street (between Avenue A and Avenue B)
New York, NY 10009

Hi Group,
This meetup is rather last minute. However, I just this morning found out about an interesting series of events all over Manhattan and surrounding area, taking place May 1-9: New York Wildflower Week.

Our Roofdeck and Roofgardening Group is going to meet up at one of their events:

Wild Project Green Roof Tour- Manhattan
The Wild Project Theater, 195 East 3rd Street (between Avenues A and B)
Sun. May 2, 12am-2pm

Take my cell number and call me if you have any problems: 917 747 7821.

It's in the East Village, just a few blocks from our apartment, but that's pure coincidence.

The Wild Project Green Roof is a relatively low roofdeck on top of a one-story building, Lower East Side funky block. No sweeping views of the city, being surrounded by taller buildings on two sides, but from a gardening perspective, an interesting project. Contains a mix of native wildflowers, including marsh marigolds and wild columbine. The 15,000 square foot space is one of the few green roofs in NYC that includes native species.

If you visit the website for New York Wildflower Week at:
you'll note that there's another event that same day in Union Square. In fact, there are interesting things to do all week long throughout the area. Some of you may find it fun to visit other events and venues.

Not as a Meetup "official meeting" but just as an individual, I am personally reserving a space for myself at another event the following day, this time in Red Hook, Brooklyn, on Monday May 3 at the inconvenient time of 5-6 pm. Sounds intriguing, though. A tour of:
Time: Monday, May 3, 5:00 - 6:00pm
Location: Linda Tool & Die Corporation, 123 Dwight Street, Red Hook
Guide: Paul Mankiewicz, Executive Director, The Gaia Institute
Important: Register for this event at:http://industrialgree...
Description: Come see the only process water/greywater treatment green roof in the world, featuring a native wetland meadow overlooking the lower New York Harbor.

Email me if you think you'd be interested in attending and we'll arrange something. They have a limited RSVP list, so book yourself in advance.

We have more ideas lined up for the summer involving hydroponics, other members' decks, possibly a tour of the Highline park, and possibly a few others that members have proposed.
