Susan has worked in the emerging markets on both the sell and buy side for over 20 years. After having been called to the Bar in Canada in 1985, Susan joined JP Morgan in 1986, where she was Head of Emerging Markets Sales, Europe. In 1993, Susan joined Goldman Sachs International as an Executive Director and Head of Emerging Markets Debt Sales and Trading, Europe. In 1997, Susan founded Emergent Asset Management Limited, an awardâwinning, alternative investment firm based in the UK, where Susan managed EM portfolios, as well as focusing on developing the firmâs Real Assets division in Africa through Emergent's "Pro Alia Management" and EmVest Asset Management and Agri Corp. EmVest currently manages an agri fund involving growing, processing and distributing various commodities across 5 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
Susan Payne was previously CEO of Emergent Asset Management, and she spun out Emvest when she exited the investment group. Payne last year sold her stake in EAM, an emerging markets private equity investment company she founded in 1997, to buyout its Africa-focused EmVest platform. The buyout also included the Emergent African Land Fund.
EmVest's head office is based in Pretoria, South Africa. In 2006 Susan was awarded a Shell UK Women of the Future Award. Susan is on the Board of MyC4, a microfinance business focused on ending poverty in Africa, and is a Patron of the Africa-focused charity Medical Aid Films. She is also Head of the UK Chapter of 85 Broads, the largest professional womenâs network in the world.
Marisa Drew is a managing director in the investment banking division of Credit Suisse, based in London. She is also co-head of the global markets solutions group and co-head of leveraged finance origination and restructuring and a member of the investment banking management committee.
Arifa Khan, Founder of Genius Incubator Limited, has eight years investment banking experience in London specializing in Private Equity sponsored Leveraged Buyout deals, and has worked as an investment banker for two Swiss banks Credit Suisse and UBS. She was most recently Vice President, Leveraged Finance and High Yield, Europe. Prior to her investment banking stint, Arifa worked in Mumbai in the financial services sector. She is excited about sectors such as luxury goods, fashion, media and entertainment, ifrastructure, healthcare, and education, and is passionate about initiatives to encourage and unleash entrepreneurial ambitions in the young. She is also an amateur fashion designer, painter and writer. Arifa has an MBA from Wharton School of Business, USA with a Finance major, a B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in Chemical Engineering.
