Pi, mash and peas walk, 10 miles, easy

  • Christmas Eve is on a Saturday this year and this walk combines several pleasurable experiences.....walking along the Bridgewater canal and Trans-Pennine trail, stopping at Altrincham for an excellent pie and mash at the Pi pub (or getting those last minute bargains if you prefer) and then a stroll back through Dunham Massey. Maybe even a Christmas toast at the Green Dragon itself.

Mostly this walk is designed to ensure that I can have a beer and a pie at the Pi bar in Altrincham. This is a great pub, friendly staff, free nuts, good beer and exquisite pies at a very reasonable price...also a great 80's soundtrack, bringing back memories of Manchester's halycon days.

    Here's some reviews of Pi....

This is a very easy walk and the emphasis is on relaxation whilst others are enslaved to the bonds of religious worship expressed through excessive consumption!

Obviously this is subject to weather and interest....if people aren't keen I might cycle a longer route instead.

The usual advice around clothing, footwear, waterproofs, compulsory cheery attitudes and sympathy for the devilish job of leading events apply.

Just checked, they are open. I have booked a table for 6, the pies are meat and vegetarian suitable.
