  • Welcome to PermaScouts Natural World Summer Kids’ Day Camp!

We decided that it wasn’t fair for grownups to have all the fun with permaculture. So we created

At our Natural World Summer Kids’ Camp we will:

Explore and appreciate the natural world through nature awareness exercises from Native
    American traditions.
Learn how to capture and use the natural energies that surround us everyday, and use these
energies to make our lives more abundant and sustainable while making our planet healthier.

    Workshops will include:
Nature awareness games – trust hike, sit spot, tracking, hiding in plain sight, and more
Life cycles and interdependent natural systems through games and interaction
Capture and purify water from natural energies
    Farm your own worm colonies
Tie dye a T~Shirt with natural plants and foods
Grow beans from seeds, permaculture style

    “Green Graffiti”
Children will be exposed to fundamentals of ecological science, botany and other subjects in
    effortless, active and pleasurable ways.
We will be provide fun and exciting challenges while developing team building skills. Our goal

    Learning Facilitator Bios:

We are a group of enthusiastic, creative and upbeat people who LOVE kids and are looking
forward to giving yours an experience they will relish and never forget!

Koreen Brennan – A dedicated home schooler for many years, she has studied with the
Tracking School, and spent many hours wildcrafting and appreciating nature, doing nature hikes,
scouting and nature awareness exercises with kids of diverse ages. She has studied and
practiced alternative education techniques for 15 years including indigenous techniques,
coyote mentoring, and unschooling. She has tutored and worked with kids from many cultures
and backgrounds. Koreen is a permaculture designer and educator, who passionately believes
that all children deserve to have every advantage to live sustainable, abundant and fulfilling lives.
Nancy Neal – Mother of two kids age 4 and 5, Nancy grew up learning wilderness survival skills
and primitive skills from her dad, spending weeks in the wilderness living off the land. Whether it
is finding and preparing wild food like acorns, building shelter, fishing, capturing and purifying
water, creating dyes, soaps and other goods from the wild, she does it! She studied
ecosystems in the wilds of Costa Rica and Panama and indigenous tribal knowledge in
California (Xolon Salinan – People of the Oaks). She was an elementary school teacher for
3 years. She is a permaculture designer, arborist and tree hugger, and organizer extraordinaire.
She has worked with kids from many cultures and countries and has much knowledge and love
of nature. Kids love and flock to her warm and friendly personality.

Cathy Bersier – Cathy ran a very successful private school for several years that focused on
mentoring kids through individualized programs. She has developed curriculum and programs
that have resulted in kids who were behind grade level moving up several levels within weeks,
and reviving their love of learning. She believes that teaching on a gradient and ensuring that
each child is assisted to find his or her own route to understanding, are keys to success. She is
a permaculture designer, long time gardener, and thinks that the combination of kids + nature
    cannot be beat!

Guest facilitator: Matt Neal – Certified Arborist and dedicated volunteer sports coach.
