This hike has wilderness views from urban trails, as I will describe, and consists of 3 trail segments of the Dos Vientos trail system in Newbury Park that we will connect via short road crossings. The entire route features views of nearby Boney Mountain from various vantage points (see pics), as well as Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa, and Conejo Mountain in the opposite direction (last pic below).
We'll begin from a trailhead on South Wendy Drive, just north of Felton, taking the Potrero Ridge Trail to a nice viewing point. Then we'll drop down to an access road and follow a trail to Reino Road, where we'll cross and pick up the same trail at another trailhead. This segment begins with a climb up some switchbacks to the top and we will continue our way westward, again with views of Boney rising from its muscular shoulders. Reaching the end of this hill, we'll descend and arrive at Via Las Brisas, cross the road and catch the final segment going up the Sierra Vista trail, which we'll stay on until reaching another wonderful viewing area just over 3 miles from our starting point.
The return is by the same route with Boney on our right, which should be bathed in the light of the 'golden hour' by this time for great photos.
