Let's watch the July 4 Simi Valley fireworks from the BEAUTIFUL Hummingbird Trail. We did this the last two years, and had a BLAST last year with LOTS of people. (For people with LOTS of hiking energy, there is a significantly longer and harder hike beginning at 5 pm at the same location that I am posting separately. We'll finish about 8 pm, and then start back up for THIS hike at 8:30.)
It's impossible to predict when this hike will finish, but I'd suggest 11 pm as a rough estimate. Last year some people stayed up there past midnight, if I recall.
Distance: 2 miles
Difficulty: easy (but could be hard if you are not a regular hiker)
Known Dangers: Rattlers and slip/fall in the dark
The fireworks are slated to start at 9:20 pm, so we will leave PROMPTLY at 8:30 to go the one mile up to PARTY ROCK for the show. Please allow adequate time to get to the trail head BEFORE 8:30. If you arrive late, just follow the trail from the trailhead (at the newly paved parking area) and you should find us. The viewing area is only about a mile from the trailhead. There will be light for part of the way up, but bring a flashlight or headlamp which you will definitely need for the way down.
We will have ample time to socialize while we wait for the lingering light to dissipate and the show to begin. You may want to bring snacks and something to drink, but DO NOT drink and drive, please!
Important: This is a night hike so make sure you bring a flashlight or headlamp, water (or other beverage of your choice), snacks, a significant other, and always remember to leave NO TRACE of your presence when you leave. If you get cold easily, bring a jacket. There may be a breeze at this location.
