This is a trail Kurt took us on during the summer that was a lot of fun. So much fun that we need to do it again and in the dark. It's a great way to get to the Rocky Peak fire road by taking a trail instead of a road.
We'll begin from the parking area on the SOUTH side of Rocky Peak Road, and head down Santa Susana Pass Road a short distance, then drop into a trail going down. We'll get to the edge of, but not into, Corriganville, then back up a hill to the wildlife tunnel going under the 118 where we'll follow a steep trail until it meets with the Rocky Peak fire road, just above the lower bench, if you are familiar with Rocky Peak.
From there we'll follow the fire road back down to the Rocky Peak trail head, and back to our cars. Make sure you bring a flashlight .
Distance: About 4 miles
Elevation Gain: about 1000'
Dogs: Leashed, per State law (better be strong for steep section)
Water Fountain: None
Parking: Free on either side of Rocky Peak Road
Trail: Single track and fire road, excellent condition
Sunset: 4:58 pm, we're starting in the dark.
Known Dangers: Rattlesnakes, slip-'n-fall, small patch of poison oak
Directions: From the 118, take the Rocky Peak Road exit between Simi and Chatsworth. Park on either end of the very short Rocky Peak Road, but watch out you don't violate the prohibited spots (they are marked) and make sure you go to the SOUTH side of Rocky Peak Road to meet up with us. We will NOT be at the Rocky Peak trailhead.
