Let's celebrate the start of a New Year with the Chumash Trail hike. The Chumash Trail is on the east side of Simi Valley, and we will stop after 2.1 miles at 'flat rock', which has the best view.

If you are interested in a bit longer hike, some of us can (and will) continue up to where the Chumash Trail meets the Rocky Peak fire road, adding an additional 1.2 miles to the total distance, and a little more elevation gain.

This is a beautiful hike in gorgeous sandstone formations and fantastic views on the way back down.

Distance: 4.2 miles (5.4 if you do the optional extension)
Elevation Gain: 1200'
Difficulty: Intermediate (too hard for beginners)
Dogs: Yes, if leashed, per State law
Restrooms: No
Water Fountain: No
Parking: Free on the street
Trail: single track, excellent condition

Known Dangers: Rattlesnakes, slip-'n-fall (not kidding about that last one!)

Directions: Take the Yosemite exit from the 118, go north on Yosemite, past the McDonalds. Shortly after the first stop sign you will reach Flanagan on your RIGHT. Follow Flanagan up and around to the left until it reaches the trailhead (pictured below). BECAUSE OF THE TIMING WITH THE SUNSET, I WANT TO START ON TIME. So please allow PLENTY of time to arrive at the trailhead, and again, do NOT trust your GPS. Simply read my directions.
