FRIDAY THE 13TH - LET'S GET WILD (again) IN WILDWOOD PARK, Then, Another Potluck/Movie Night!
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION, ESPECIALLY BELOW THE MAP!!!
This is a BEGINNER 4.1 mile hike with a visit to the "head of the lizard", traversing Stagecoach Pass, descending past the Tee-Pee to Paradise, and returning to the start with the Indians.
Dogs are OK on the hike, but Sammy appreciates that there won't be any at the Pot-Luck / Comedy / Movie event.
We'll be approximating the Blue line CCW in the image below with the low point being Paradise Falls at 375' and the high point being the top of Lizard Rock at 928'. We'll stay on the Mesa until we cross over Stagecoach Pass in order to make a visit to the Tee-Pee (yay, Becky!) on the way down to Paradise Falls. An easy return via the Indian Trail will take us back to the start, with a possible short side trip to the Indian Cave, light permitting, along the way.
NOW FOR THE FUN PART (PLEASE READ THIS)!
After the hike, we will have another big Pot-Luck and Movie (I'm thinking "Fast and Furious 7) back at my house, complete with two fire-pits to get cozy by (unless it's exceedingly warm out). However, this time the movie will be Delayed or Interrupted for a Comedy Event. Here's the deal:
EVERYONE: PLEASE PLAN TO GATHER AROUND AND GIVE YOUR COURTEOUS ATTENTION TO THE COMEDIANS!!!
You will have a choice :
<1> Take a turn to stand up in front of the group and tell at least TWO JOKES.
<2> Or... Donate $1 *** for each of two jokes you do not tell (i.e. tell two jokes: you're good to go, tell one joke: donate $1, tell no jokes: donate $2). All donations are used to help offset the expense of running the Best Hiking Club (IMHO) on Meetup.com. See "*** THE FINE PRINT" below!
<3> Or... Convince someone to PROXY for you, telling two jokes for you in your stead.
<4> Fourth Option (added by request)... Sing us a song or play one on a musical instrument (harmonica, flute, etc...).
You have nearly two weeks to find and rehearse your Two Jokes, OR I can provide you with a list of jokes to pick from and recite.
The only other rules are: No children's jokes (Why did the chicken cross the road?), No knock-knock jokes (Knock-knock. Who's there? Orange. Orange who...?), unless exceedingly creative and funny, and No limericks (There once was a man from Nantucket...) that we've all heard before.
POSSIBLE - SPECIAL GUEST:
Katya informs me she MAY be out of town but I am still holding out hope that she will make a cameo appearance and entertain us with (one of) her stand-up routines this time. I'll update this paragraph as more info becomes available.
THIS IS A B-Y-O-B PARTY. Anything you want to drink (beer, wine, soda, etc.) you should plan on bringing for yourself AND to share. Let's limit the cake, cookies, and popcorn this time as there are just too many left-overs of them. Salads, side dishes, sandwiches, chili, and entrees will be awesome!
This is an OUTDOOR ONLY EVENT so plan for a cool evening in case you can't find a spot very near one of the fire pits. If you are the 20+ person to sign up, please bring a chair if you care to sit.
*** THE FINE PRINT:
Donations in my events will ALWAYS be voluntary and are intended solely to help offset the yearly cost of hosting this group on MeetUp.com. The collection of donations has NOT been requested (nor authorized) by any of the organizers of PM-Hikers and will NOT be enforced regardless of your participation in activities mentioned in this post!
