This is just advanced notice of an impending book hike for March, 2017 in case some of you would want to start reading now. The book is Dostoevsky's masterpiece (see the something-pedia link) "Demons" or "The Possessed" (sometimes translated as "The Devils" in the original Russian OR the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation if that's a stretch for you.
Here is what we do:
1. READ the book(s). Demons is widely considered one of Dostoevski's four masterpieces. It is translated into every language. Please make an attempt to read it and share your thoughts with fellow hikers.
2. Be ready to HIKE (with hiking boots, legs, sweat) to a beautiful spot at around sunset. Be able to keep up with the group and get out before it gets extremely dark. Bring a headlamp or flashlight, water, appropriate footwear and clothing. You must be responsible for being fit enough to hike and getting yourself to the destination and back.
Dogs: Probably not.
Sunset: 6:05pm, we will try to reach a spot where we can spread out and chat and nosh by 5:45 or so.
Weather: Possibly cold and wet with temperatures dropping after sunset. Possibly the warmest March on record due to a Chinese conspiracy. Rain cancels.
3. Bring amazing snacks to share. Your host generally focuses on wine and cheese, but the other two food groups, sugar and salt, are also popular.
Hiker, reader, father of two stunningly brilliant girls. I hike every chance I get.
