Peninsula Dog Obedience Group
This will be a 6 week Beginning Obedience Class.
We will cover basic obedience behaviors, leave it, come when called, sit, down, stay, loose leash walking, and some targeting. If your dog is more advanced, you may use this class as distractions for your current level.
The classes are for dogs over 5 months old. Puppy class can be taken up until then.
The class is 6 weeks for $75.00.
We can only take checks or cash at the dog club.
Can pay online with a credit card.
We must see the proof of shot records receipt from a vet.
Bring some SOFT, smelly, tasty treats that your dog will like, ie. cheese, beef heart, liver, sausage, hot dogs.
Bring your dog on a flat collar with a leash, NO choker chains or prong collars! We are located in the old school bus barn on K-Beach Rd. From Soldotna we are the third place on the left past Poppy Lane, just to the left of a strip mall.

This will be a series of classes that will begin in Oct and run through May.
We are willing to use a punch card for this class... so if you have to miss a class for any reason, you won't be out the money. I would say however,
the 6 week punch card will only be good for 8 weeks.
So please try not to miss unless it is very important.
It will be sold in 6 week periods for $90.00 which can be paid for through this site via paypal. If you choose to continue with each six week class periods, you don't need to sign up again. We will consider you to be a part of this Oct-May session. You just need to make payment every six weeks.
Please bring your paypal receipt to the class each time you make a payment.
If you prefer to pay with cash or a check, that is acceptable also. We do not take Credit Cards.
Please bring dog’s proof of shot record receipt to the first class. Also bring your dog hungry, with small soft tasty treats.
The final Class will be in May 2018
Our goal is that at the end of these classes, you will have the fundamentals of the sport and will be encouraged to continue your handling skills and training with the training facility of your choice. The facilities I know of that offer advanced agility classes are Pendog, Kenai Kennel Club (KKC), and Dog Works. You will need to check with them in the spring for space availability.
We will get back to you as the class fills up. This class is limited to 8 people. If the class is not full, we will consider taking 'new' dogs, depending on how far into the training we are, and how many dogs we have in class.

I would like to start by saying there are many many ways to teach scent work with a dog. Many different theories. Many different Organizations.
Just as I found out in doing dog Agility, you want as many 'tools' in your belt as possible. There is not JUST ONE way to do it. Every Teacher, every organization, every DOG is different. You need to find what works best between you and your dog. The more 'tools' you have, the more communication you have, the better relationship with any animal.
The training system I will be teaching is from the Dave Kroyer system.
If you would like to know more about him, go take a look at https://www.davekroyer.com/ This is a man with Huge skills.
Having a Scent Work Indicator with your dog, is having a dog that knows exactly HOW TO TELL YOU where the 'stinky' is.
or a 'Lassie' to show you that Timmy is in the Well !!!!
(I know some of you are whistling that tune right now!) :)
The class is for Novice to Expert Scent Work dogs.
It does not matter if the dog has ever had scent work training or not.
If this is your first time looking into scent work, you will come away from this class with a clearer way to communicate with your dog.
This class is to help your dog give you a clear – absolute – and durable indication when he has found the scent. Period.
The more communication skills you and your dog have, the more fun you have.
The one thing I know is that dogs are MASTERS on reading human body language. And we are creatures of habit. We sometimes don’t even realize we are expressing ourselves in ways that can miss cue a dog.
For those of you that have already been doing scent work.... How many times have you said, "boy I talked him right into that one".....
Or how about this? Here is a scenario I have been in before…. How about you?
You are in a Trial.... Dog sort of dances around an area.....
Handler, “Are you sure?” Dog, “Are YOU sure?”
Handler, “Show me!” Dog, “I did…. but this must not be what you want”
Handler, “Alert????” Judge, “Can you show me where?”
Handler… Guessing… does a Vanna White move
COME ON... YOU KNOW YOU HAVE DONE THIS. :)
So, if you can make something better between you and your dog…..
WHY NOT DO IT.
A class to introduce dogs and handlers to AKC tracking. My goal is to show students how start tracking with their dogs and give them the skill set needed to continue training on their own. We will meet at a different location each week, so if you want to take the class you must contact me for directions.
Run throughs will be held each Sunday. Come and play with your dogs, it is great fun. The program will change each week, games, instruction and help with what you or your dogs have issues with. Invite a friend and help make the Barn Hunt community grow.
We are excited to show you our new facility and see all our friends we have not seen for a few months.
Dogs and Handlers will learn and continue working on novice obedience skills. The dogs and handlers that are more advanced will also work on open obedience skills.
The class is 8 weeks and $90.
Students must have taken a class with me before or have instructor permission.
