Dinner and Viewing of Fork Over Knives

  • Jan 4, 2013 · 5:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

New Harmony has a Karyoke room. We will watch Fork Over Knives and do some Karyoke if people want to and are into it! Price is $15 per person and they bring out lots and lots of goodies (no need to order off the menu). The cost is well worth it. We have done this before and the food keeps coming!

It was my first meet-up, I enjoyed meeting new people, very educational movie, great conversation and food, hope to do it again soon.

So very sorry I was not feeling well at the last moment. Kudos to Sara. Looks like it went swimmingly.

Ok I went in and added Mayur, Bruce, Lihuan and Angela's guest to the list based on your previous requests. If any of you cannot make it just please change your RSVP. Thanks!

wast out of town by the time i received the confirmation. sorry.

      January 6, 2013

    • Jill

No worries Bruce. This is why we encourage members not to cancel last minute. Even though there is a wait list, the wait list people rarely see the cancellation in enough time to sign up. Sorry about that. :(

What a fun way to start off the new year, especially if anyone has resolutions about having a better diet or making new friends. It was nice to see so many new members (and old regulars!) come to this event. Happy 2013 to all, and thanks to Sara Petrosky for this great idea and for organizing it!

The evening was festive, friendly and fascinating!! I loved seeing the movie for a second time. It's such an important movie that everybody needs to experience!

    The movie was very informative.

I had a great time at this meetup. The food was excellent and the movie was informative. It was also great to see so many new people at their first PVSC meetup.

please put me on waiting list

    January 1, 2013

    • Maria

oh boy. i'll show up too. it sounds like no-shows are not uncommon.

      January 3, 2013

    • Himanshu

We'd rather there be no no-shows, but I suppose life happens when you're making plans, right?

      January 4, 2013

  • Donna

It doesn't look like I am going to be done work in time to make it. I hope someone on the waiting list can take my spot.

    January 4, 2013

    • Himanshu

      Thanks for updating your RSVP!

      January 4, 2013

  • Adam

Since so many people are still asking for spots and it's doubtful I'll be out of work before 5, I'm going to cancel my RSVP. I've already seen the movie and ate at New Harmony before Christmas. Please let someone else take my spot and have a good meal.

    January 4, 2013

    • Himanshu

      That's thoughtful of you. thanks!

      January 4, 2013

  • Mayur

RSVP is now closed. Please consider a wait-list in case of no-shows. New Harmony has the same cooks as Kingdom of Veg?

    December 31, 2012

    • Himanshu

See Sara's note below; apparently the place can only handle 40, so we're already 2 over, but Sara thinks it should be okay to have a few extra without too much trouble...not to mention the ever present "no-shows".

      December 31, 2012

    • Himanshu

Mayur, I'd just come on down... the no-shows usually don't change their RSVP either (!), and if someone changes their RSVP very late in the day that does nobody any good, but that too happens sometime. We have room for 40, apparently, but it seems a few extra shouldn't be a problem.

    Can I bring 2 friends?

    December 29, 2012

    • Sara P.

Of course. I have other videos that I'd like to watch there other times so if it works out we could try this again with food inc., fat sick and nearly dead, etc.

      December 30, 2012

Sara, I had a demo at Whole Foods in Devon on Friday and they are showing movies Friday evenings in January - first one, you guessed it, is Forks Over Knives, same night we're seeing it, followed by Food Inc, Super Size Me, Fat Sick and Nearly Dead.

  • Sara P.

I just checked with the owner of New Harmony. The place holds 40 people. At the end someone always cancels so I think we are good to have a few more than 40 RSVPs, but much more than that may pose a slight problem. I think we are good for now.

    December 30, 2012

    • tina h.

I am able to go now!

      December 30, 2012

    • Sara P.

Himanshu, you better NOT back out. We'll sneak you in if we have too.

Thanks so much for all the information! I agree that the food, movie and company will be great! Looking forward to it.

    December 26, 2012

Please remember that I am giving total guest rsvps to new harmony this week. If you are signed up but cannot make it, please note the change so I do not RSVP for too many. We hate to see vegan food go to waste.

Also, remember it costs $15 plus a tip. Bring cash which will be collected when you arrive. Thanks for all the cooperation. The food, movie and company will be terrific.

Hi Sara - I'll pay for the food whether or not I am able to make it- would that work? I can paypal it to you if I don't go? I'd like to go but will have to check with my boss to see if I can get out early.

      December 26, 2012

    • Himanshu

Tina, it sounds like this food will be served family style-- meaning New Harmony will make "enough" to serve about 40 people; if you come, you should pay in cash to Sara, and if you don't come, that's okay too so long as we don't have too many no-shows, as the food preparation will be on a "guesstimate". Sara can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this works best and saves everyone hassles.

      December 26, 2012

  • Sara P.

I spoke to the New Harmony owner today (ok, ok, I also had my annual tofurkey there too!). I told him that 38 of my closest friends are joining me for dinner on January 4 at 5:30. Please everyone bring $15 plus a tip ($3?) IN CASH. I'll collect it from you on your way in the door, so that I can pay for all of us before the movie starts. We will be served at 5:30 and start the movie at 6:30 so that we can see the whole thing by 8:00. We have the room until 8:30 so if you want to, there will be Karyoke opportunities after the movie and dinner. Himanshu, I can't wait to hear you sing!

    3 · December 25, 2012

I will sing if I'm drunk enough... ;)

I need to tell the owner how many people to expect so he has plenty of food for us! The cost is $15 per person plus a tip. Please make sure that you change your RSVP to reflect what you really are going to do. I would hate for NH to have too little or too much food for us.

was wondering if anyone in this group has tried juicing

    December 2, 2012

I want to see this movie - great idea! Do you know what time the movie will start? I work until 6 and will have to see if I can leave a little early..

Fork Over Knives is a film about the health, environmental and global benefits of a plant based diet. It is also the title of a book. You can find more information on the internet of course.

Hi, Jill, Mostly during. I have done this before and we waited a short while until everyone came and then once food was out on the table, started the show. We control the video machine!
