    Capacitas

**IMPORTANT NOTICE** Please sign up on Eventbrite to attend this event: https://bit.ly/2TodXZb Join us on 12th February for the 9th edition of The QE Roundabout kindly hosted by our friends at Capacitas in Farringdon. Our first talk will be given by Vasilis Chatzinasios and Thomas Barns from Capacitas. Vasilis and Thomas will discuss 'How to automate performance sign off in DevOps'. Synopsis: How can you be confident that code you release will perform as required by the business? Historically the answer usually involved dedicated teams, expensive toolsets and a lot of time! For today’s DevOps teams a new way of working is needed. Many approaches to automating performance as part of a CI pipeline are limited to automated execution with basic threshold analysis. We’ll discuss how basic analysis can lead to critical performance issues being released and remaining dormant until peak. We’ll look at the key elements of performance that need to be considered, and discuss techniques for fully automating detection. Finally we’ll consider some of the perennial challenges like reducing false positives and not slowing down the build process. Next, we will hear from Ben Ellerby at Theodo. Ben will giving a talk on 'Doing BDD in 2019: Cucumber with Cypress'. Synopsis: Behaviour driven development can be seen as an extension to Test Driven Development and is especially effective in problem domains that are complex, or for maintaining quality as your technical team grows. Historically using BDD for browser testing has required Selenium which is slow and requires a lot of maintenance. Cypress is a new alternative to selenium that is fast and provides an amazing developer experience. On a recent project, I have moved the team up to a 100% BDD coverage of every user story, changing the process around user story generation, enforcing a TDD culture and investing in build parallelisation to ensure the approach scales. I will discuss my approach, the challenges we have hit and what we are experimenting with. The agenda: 6:00pm - Arrival, networking, pizzas and beer/refreshments 6:40pm - Vasilis Chatzinasios and Thomas Barns (Capacitas) - 'How to automate performance sign off in DevOps' 7.10pm - Ben Ellerby (Theodo) - 'Doing BDD in 2019: Cucumber with Cypress'. 7:40pm - tbc 8.10pm - More networking and pub Thanks all! • Quality Architecture and the impact on architecture in Testing

**NB: You must have an Eventbrite ticket! This is for security purposes so that we can get everyone's full name** http://bit.ly/EventbriteQER2 We are delighted to announce the 2nd QE Roundabout hosted by Tandem Bank in their offices in Angel. We will be having 2 talks around the topic “Quality Architecture and the impact on architecture in Testing” with speakers from ASOS and BP. And we have 2 fantastic talks lined up for you! Firstly, we will be hearing from Gareth Waterhouse, Lead QA Engineer at ASOS, who will be giving a talk “AA: Automating the Architecture”. Working for ASOS for 8+ years, Gareth has been working across multiple platform teams and seen the growth and the challenges that has posed. Gareth’s talk is about some of the challenges that ASOS has experienced in deploying and testing their platform. It will look at the architecture that sits behind, the challenges that poses, and the journey they went on as they used automation to help tackle this. It will talk about Azure, Load Balancers, Akamai, APIs, Automated Tests, TeamCity & Octopus, CI.... No matter how big the problem(s), by breaking them down having a clear vision and tackling them in isolation, it will help you achieve success. And finally, we will be hearing from Peter Houghton who will give a talk "Practising test architecture". Peter, an experienced Tester, Test Architect and Scrum Master with over 20 years in the software industry focuses on helping teams to deliver technically complex systems quickly and efficiently. While starting out as a programmer, he soon found working with teams to help them build and test products - using programming and critical thinking skills - was the perfect fit. Full stack agile teams can face a bewildering array of testing challenges. How can you architect your testing to help deliver quality products when there is so much to do? (and so little time). Peter will be your guide as we examine how teams often get caught-out or stuck building high maintenance test architecture - with minimal gain. We'll explore tools and strategies that will enable you to focus their skills and deliver. 6:00pm - Arrival, networking, pizzas and beer/refreshments 6:40pm - (Tandem Bank) - Introduction 7:00pm – Gareth Waterhouse (ASOS) - AA: Automating the Architecture 7.30pm - Peter Houghton (BP) - Practising test architecture 8:00pm - More networking and drinks 8:30pm onwards - Pub!
