Complex Task Execution w/ Django & Celery

This month's talk will be about handling complex task execution logic by leveraging advanced features of AMQP and celery instead of in-code control flows. Matt, the CTO of FiveStars, has had a lot of experience with their automated messaging platform and has a lot of tips and information to share from their real world implementation.

Our Host, FiveStars

FiveStars is a consumer identity platform that personalizes commerce in the real world by harnessing the power of big data, predictive analytics, and cloud-based marketing automation. Our vision is to make offline transactions as personalized as they are online by building a ubiquitous software platform at the merchant point-of-sale.

In two years, we've gone from two guys in a garage to serving thousands of merchants and tracking over $200M in transaction data from millions of users. We've raised $19M in funding from top tier investors like Lightspeed, DCM, and Y-Combinator and built a world-class team that includes ex-McKinsey consultants specializing in customer engagement, the former Head of Global SMB Marketing from Facebook, the Lead Designer of iBooks from Apple, the Director responsible for big data product strategy from Capital One, senior platform developers from Zynga, an adventure-seeking tour guide, two Ph.Ds in theoretical physics and biomedical engineering, multiple marathoners, and two ukulelists. FiveStars slick business model and use of text messaging and on-line coupons seemed like a modern chapter from AMC's hit show "Mad Men". Matt even looks like Donald Draper! It was especially great to have a lot of the problem points in their technologies highlighted and their work-arounds explained.
