Celebrate summer, with a leisurely hike through redwoods, over streams,
and across meadows, passing a truly awesome ropes course, and a tree with
"windows." The trail is behind Chaminade, near Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz.
*Easy/moderate, with some up and down hills, and very pretty!
3 - 5 pm: hike
5 - 7 pm: brown bag picnic (byovf: bring your own vegan food)
We'll meet on the upper side, next to the Santa Cruz Gardens Park, where
we will have our picnic after the hike. We can leave our food in our cars
as we hike, so please wrap any perishables with ice so it'll still be
fresh when we eat. There's a gate to enter the Chaminade property right
next to the park. Radha Vignola will guide us through the "Blue Loop" and
beyond. Meet at 2:45 or 3, we'll start hiking at 3:15! We can pause at Chaminade
for a bathroom break, before our short climb back to the park.
We'll return, at approximately 5 pm, for our brown bag picnic. Please
bring a large cloth to spread out on the grass and a sit-upon pillow or
chair, so you're comfy sitting on the grassy slopes of the Santa Cruz
- The Park has a policy of No Alcohol allowed, and there are no bathrooms or
water faucets, but there's plenty of sloping grass and friendly dogs are allowed, on leashes, both in the park and in Chaminade.
Directions to meet-up:
From Dominican Hospital on Soquel Drive, go south two blocks,
turn left on Thurber, and go up the hill.
Turn left on Winkle,
right onto Cabrillo,
and left onto Katherine.
Park near the little park that's on the left.
