Minnan (hokkien) is a tonal language. The following 7 tones follow that of Amoy/Taiwanese:

2nd tone: hóo 虎 (tiger)
3rd tone: pà 豹 (leopard)
4th tone: pih 鄨
5th tone: hîm 熊 (bear)
