Moving the date out a week plus one day to accommodate changes in the weather.... Hope you can join on the new date, same time! Fish Canyon is just 2 miles off the freeway in the city of Duarte (Azusa) - the trailhead adjacent to the Vulcan Quarry. If you've never hiked this trail before, what lies beyond the non-descript parking lot is truly a treat -- especially now with endless greenery, a colorful display of beautiful wildflowers, and a 3 tier 80' waterfall -- complete with water flowing! Another popular feature of this hike is a swimming hole where those brave enough can make the 20' jump into the water below from a rock pile above. Reminder: Should you decide to indulge in these 'fun shenanigans' that you are doing so at your own risk.

The hike stats:

Round trip from the parking lot is about 5.5 miles with an elevation gain of < 800 feet. Nothing major... except for the major beauty you will see and the fun you will have along the way to the falls!! The trail is narrow in multiple places with a few steep drops so I recommend that you be comfortable with traveling on this type of terrain and consider yourself sure-footed. I should also advise that there are areas of poison oak (all avoidable), but do watch where you place your hands and what you brush up against.

Other things you may want to know:

This is a busy destination but we are starting early so we should only encounter crowds on our journey back. The ending point is festive,- with the young and young at heart all co-mingling enjoying this very beautiful local destination.

What you need to bring:

Water 1.5 - 2 liters, something to eat when we stop at the waterfall to enjoy the destination, and hiking poles if you need or prefer to use them . You should wear hiking boots or if you prefer another type of shoe, be sure they have good tread and of course, wear sunscreen! Personal first aid supplies, just in case. 🌞

Other details:

The trail is Dog friendly, but not alcohol friendly, so please leave that at home. if you plan to get wet, bring an extra pair of shoes -- the rocky terrain presents fall hazards when wearing wet shoes. Oh, and parking is free! Yay!

Directions: Use the address provided above for the most accurate directions from your starting point. Please allow a cushion for driving errors in order to arrive by 8am. Hike begins at 8:05am. I will provide my contact information to those who will be hiking.
