The Talepop Trail follows the top of a ridge between Liberty Canyon and Las Virgenes Canyon in Calabasas, where there are great views down into Malibu Creek State Park in all directions. This will be a lolipop hike, with a large sucker and a small handle. The Grasslands Trails makes up the handle and half of the sucker of the lolipop.
The Talepop Trail is sometimes overgrown, so long pants are recommended to protect you from scratches. If the trail is too overgrown, we will return to the Grasslands Trail and hike it south to Mullholand Hwy instead.
Update on May 1: Volunteer trailworkers have cut out the overgrowth on Talepop over most of it's length in the past couple of weeks, with just a short section in the middle that they didn't get to. It sounds like we'll at least get up to the top to see the views into the valleys, and most likely be able to make it all the way through!
Overall, we will hike 4.0 miles with about 700' of climbing.
Directions: Take the 101 Freeway to the Lost Hills Road exit in Calabasas. At the end of the off-ramp proceed south toward the ocean. Park in the lot for DeAnza Park located on the northwest corner of Lost Hills and Las Virgenes Roads.
