Let's take a little amble through one of Thousand Oaks' hidden gems, the Botanical Garden. The Garden is 33 acres of diverse habitat and flora, including desert, Mediterranean, herb, and butterfly gardens among 15 different hillside gardens. Numerous paths flow through native plants and fruit trees, and along an oak and willow lined stream. Incredibly, all of that is FREE to the public.
The Garden alone is a mite too gentle, so we'll ramble up Tarantula Hill (sound too scary? it's also known as Dawn's Peak) after our garden reverie so we feel like we did something. The Hill offers sweeping views of Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, and the Channel Islands on a clear day. Even with this extra bit, we'll have to stretch to make this hike 4 miles.
Pace: This is a gentler hike. We will go at a more moderate pace than a regular Trailblazer hike, and we'll take more breaks. The purpose is to give novice and intermediate hikers who may feel they're not up to a regular hike a chance to get out and experience our beautiful trails. Faster hikers are welcome to come along, with the understanding that the hike is geared toward those who want to go at an easier pace.
Exit the 101 Freeway at Lynn Road. Go north .7 mile to Gainsborough Road. Turn right and proceed ½ mile to the access drive on the right on Jeaunine Drive & Gainsborough Road.
