Dear SET meetup community,

It has been quite some time since we all got the chance to meet and talk energy and innovation. For those that joined us at our SET Tech Festival and during the Drawdown Europe event, thank you! Now, it is time for our next meetup. This time, we will feature a very special and important initiative that we have proudly chosen to partner with: The Global Cooling Prize.

The Global Cooling Prize is rallying a global coalition of leaders to solve the critical climate threat that comes from growing demand for residential air conditioning. By harnessing the power of innovation, we can provide cooling solutions that enhance people’s lives without contributing to runaway climate change.

There is at least US $3M in Award prize money. The Intent to Apply forms are due by the end of June 2019. Criteria and all other info here: https://globalcoolingprize.org/

As we know that there are brilliant innovators working on these solutions within our network, we invite you to learn more about the award and to chat about cooling systems (air con., insulation, energy mgmt devices) for the energy transition and in the fight against climate change.

Our first speaker announced is Nick Nuttall, Strategic Communications Director of the Earth Day Network. Beforehand, Nick was the Director of Communications and Outreach and Spokesperson for the UN Environment headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change headquartered in Bonn, Germany.

Our second speaker will be Christoph Goeller, Co-Founder at COOLAR. Coolar developed and built a compact refrigeration system that is powered by heat rather than electricity and thus can tap low-carbon and inexpensive heat sources like solar thermal installations. It can be used as a reliable solution for vaccine cooling in regions without stable electricity access. Coolar receives support through the EIT Climate-KIC entrepreneurship programme, as well as the Social Impact Start programme.

See you soon!
